Search found some solutions, but they all require access to the originating router.

Heres my dilemma...

I'm temporarily renting a room while I attend a short certification school. I have access to the internet via wifi, as you can see but my bandwidth is crap. I can not download anything nor can I connect to my online games.
If I move to the living room (downstairs, other side of house) I can connect to games & download without issue but I need to be able to do this from my desk.
I read alot about boosting the signal of the router using larger antennas or home made foil contraptions etc but I do not have access to the router. Lets just say, its in the home owners room and under no circumstances can I tamper with, modify or even touch it.

Anyone have experience with this or any ideas how I can get more signal/bandwidth to my lappy without working from the couch??

Thanks guys,
Todd

Thanks for this, looks like it "may" do the trick.

Anyone use this product?

If this solution works, i'm wondering if its good for travel as well. For example, sometimes when I'm in a hotel, I pay for the local wifi or the free wifi but just as where i'm right now, the bandwidth is spotty and gaming sucks.

Let me be the first to say that this is a poor solution. I have used ths exact product to both borrow and extend my own network, and it simply does a very poor job. One thing I noticed is that it SIGNIFICANTLY increases latency...I saw pings go from 50-100 with direct router connection to over 500 every time when boosted. It is also not very dependable, needing to be adjusted often to maintain optimal signal quality. Overall, I would say the best bet is to try something else...best of luck though, when all was said and done I broke down and ordered my own connection and bought a Buffalo router (highly recommended with Tomato firmware)
