What sensitivity setting do you guys use in Halo 3?
I'm at 4 right now, trying to work my way since I never played Halo 1 or 2 on console.

Such an odd Thread...

I'm on either 6 or 7...can't remember which (I know Halo was 7 so I could have the turnspeed needed to singleshot kill Hunters and Halo 2 was a 6 because that speed just felt better)

I really need to play with that setting. Aiming felt a bit sluggish at default when I tried out the first level before returning to Bioshock to finish it.

I keep it on 5. I wish you could tune the accel zones on the stick manually, but this is the best level so far. 3 was just too slow, and I wouldn't want to go past 5 b/c I'm not that good with analog sticks as it is, I would lose all control.

have always used a sensitivity of 1. Also yes strangely enough i am pretty good too.

I don't think there's a right an wrong setting. I'm just using the default as it feels comfy, but I have a tough time getting precise shots. If I up it, I can look around faster, but it's even harder to line shots up. If I lower it, it feels like my guy is underwater...BUT those headshots are a lot easier.
I think a lot of it comes down to your background. I know a lot of players who've been gaming for a long time tend to still treat the analog like a joystick. Rather than applying soft pressure, we jerk it in a direction out of habit. Sensitivity settings can help us overcome that.
I think gamers who are younger and not so used to dead zones are likely better at it. They can likely crank the sensitivity up and still have precision aim.

I use 5. I had to use High on GoW as well. I need a little speed so I can turn quickly to get those guys that rush behind. However, Halo needs a little more precision, so I think 5 will be my highest, hard to get people across the map if the view is jerkin around everywhere.

I use 4, however I wish there was an X/Y adjustment, as I feel looking up/down feels weird compared to my left/right.

Yeah, that's exactly the problem I've had to overcome in playing console FPS games. I push it right to the edge when I'm not focusing. There's a great deal of learned behavior that you need in aiming and my subconscious hasn't made the connection with my thumbs yet. I have to focus and consciously aim, whereas with the mouse I'm not aiming I'm just hitting them since the muscle memory is already there. I do average since most of the general strategies carryover between FPSes, but I'm not used to just being average:\

Speaking of joysticks, how many people play inverted? I grew up with joysticks before controllers had sticks of their own, so I naturally am inclined to play inverted. People have argued with me about this for some reason I can't explain, but basically I can't play without it being inverted, its impossible for me.

I use 9 and am comfortable. I use "flick" movements and am good at quick 90, 180, and 360 degree movements

I'm using 6 right now I thinks. Used 7 in halo 2 though. Anything less and I can't turn quick enough to get those close shotgun shots and anything more and I can't snipe at all. Does anyone else think that Halo 3 is a little more touchie then 2? I'm still getting my sniper down in 3 and I was pretty decent in 2.

Inverted here. The default makes no sense at all.

default makes perfect sense - you want to look up, you push the joystick up
inverted doesn't make sense to me - you don't do it for horizontal movements, so why do it for vertical?
it's like if you wanted to look left you would press it to the right

Both make sense.

Default = You see from the character's head
Inverted = You see from your head.

It just depends on where your sense of self is. And your sense of self is not necessarily tied to your body, it can be affected by where you think your body is.

Interesting study had subjects wear goggles that showed real-time video from a camera positioned behind them. So it was a self third-person. They raised a hammer in front of the camera, and when they swung a hammer down in front of the camera where the subject's knee would be, the subjects flinched.

In FPS games I use default, but if I'm ever flying anything, inverted is a must. :)

I think I'm at 6 right now, will crank it up to 9 or 10 as soon as I get used to using a gamepad again.

Right now i'm 7, will be 10 once microsoft gives me back my FUBAR'd console.

:)

Default, chances are if someone does jump the trigger on you behind you you're fucked anyway.

You pay attention to the radar and that's not always the case. Something I'm still learning because often I notice I could've lived if i just glanced at the radar.

I don't know about you but when people catch me from behind they are outside of my radar, when it happens I do my best to just take cover and throw grenades until my shield regens and I can go own them.

So far I've been playing it on the default... I haven't even looked at the settings, except to invert the 'Y' controls, because when you start on Heroic you completely skip the little "diagnostics test" that marine gives you. I haven't played an online multiplayer game yet (I'm going to beat the game on Legendary tonight and then do that), but I'm definitely increasing the sensitivity first. The default is a tad slow for my tastes.

I am having a heck of a time with console fps gaming and a controller. I just bought a 360 2 days ago- after being an exclusive PC fps gamer using a keyboard/mouse for 12 years. I was getting smoked last night in Halo 3. Any tips to make an easier transition? In the PC I normally invert the mouse- I still can't find the correct settings that work for me with a controller.

Thanks,

Scott

It just takes time to transition from M/K to a controller. I'm in your same boat, and over the last couple months I've been using the 360 controller I've got more used to it.

Same as guy and quote above... I hate playing console FPS but I enjoyed halo, so I bought the game and sat down to give it a shot. First thing I did was set the setting to 4, but that was still too slow. However, when I set it to 5, it just seems to be out of control lol...

So 4 for me... I'd much rather have m/k, just the way it feels, it was meant to be :p... Decent game though, I don't do bad, just a little above average I guess, which imo isn't bad for playing xbox once every month or so lol.

Two of my friends came over for the weekend (and both got me a ton of ranks...but killed my reputation with trash talk)...but both of them play with inverted controls and the sensitivity CRANKED. When your sensitivity is 10, you can actually turn as fast as a mouse can. The catch is that it's insanely hard to get used to.
Until I get better I think I'll stick to 3 and normal.
