Im looking to buy a new point and shoot, but have been out of the camera world for a long time

Here are my primary needs

#1) Excellent macro, which is easy to use (literally, point and shoot, no messing with settings). This is from my old 2megapixel fuji, i want it to be at least this good.

#2) 5x optical zoom

#3) Good low light shooting (this was the only thing my old camera was bad at, refused to autofocus in anything but perfect lighting). IE, I pointed it at my black cat in broad daylight and it wouldnt autofocus

#4) A reasonably large lcd (2.7 would be nice), but this is least important.

#5) A little bit of oooh shiney factor, ive been reading about the new face sensing technologies, or the ability to rapidly take a couple photos at the same time automatically so you can pick the best one. That appeals to me, but is a last priority over the above

Primary uses will be macro shots of circuitry and electronics, with a secondary purpose of taking pictures of people.

I like my Canon S2 IS. It has a Super Macro mode on it. Here's a few examples. This is from a framed print we have. The lens was literally sitting on the glass of the frame. To the naked eye, you can't see the dots.

Hope that helps!!

I agree. I like the Canon S3 IS and it can be found for around $250 -$300 if you look around. I saw it at Fry's Electronics last week for $250. Great all around camera that can double as a video camera also with a decent 2-4GB SD card.

My main camera is a Pentax K100D but the Canon is great if you don't want to carry all your equipment around.
