I'm putting my new system together and noticed that the front and rear fans are intakes and the side fan is the outtake. So I'm wondering what would the be the best position to mount the fan on a thermalright ultra 120 extreme?

Front fans should be intake. Side fans intake to cool your video card and cpu. Back fan should be outtake since you will be positioning your thermalright with the fan blowing against the heatsink right to the back fan sucking out the heat.

The Lian Li V-series cases don't work that way. in the first revisions they made the mistake of going with the traditional 'front - intake, rear - exhaust' and it resulted in some pretty average cooling results. With the Plus series they have reversed the rear fan thereby making it an intake. This works really well as it directly blows air over the heat sink and motherboard components. The only gripe I have with this is that it somewhat neglects the video-card (something which they have countered by adding blower fans on some models and side exhausts on others)

So my advice would be to have the fan blowing towards the front of the case (going with the airflow from the rear fan)

Thanks for you input guys. I think i'll try both ways and see what works better for me.
