My current Job is requireing me to get a CCNA. I'm generally a practical hands on type learner. However I do not have access to much hands on with Cisco gear at this time.

I need advice on the best study guides that will give me just what I need to pass the tests.

I am not working hands on with network gear however I am in a project management job where I need the background information. We have very qualified engeneers that I'll be relieing on for specifics. I simply need the cert.

I highly recommend picking up some simluator software. If you don't have access to the hardware, you can at least pretend and have it simulate the environment. I know from experience that reading about the Cisco IOS is MUCH different that actually working on it.

Books are a must as well. Read the books, then apply it in teh simulator.

If you have a problem learning from this (most people need hands on), try out some training courses. There are alot of "boot-camps" out there that will crash course you to your cert. These do work, despite what people say, you just have to really know what you're doing and focus and actually put some effort into it.

Other than that, the only real way to learn is to actually get your hands dirty.

See if your local community college offers CCNA courses. That is a great way to go about it. Keep in mind though, that around November CCNA is revising their test as well as their official net academy course (which your college would use).

i'm looking for self study I have attended the one week CCNA training course but felt that this did nto prep me for the test.
