Before i begin, dont shoot the messenger as i found this on digg and wanted to see if anyone could backup or refute the rumor.

I think there will be a price drop...though I don't think it will be until November/December of this year. 65nm shrink will be what MS waits for before they drop the price.

Lol, digg really isn't the place to find news on games, a lot of the users spin the titles to make it sound more exaggerated than it really is. Plus, digg has been going downhill since a few weeks ago.. been seeing the same articles being front paged multiple times and inaccurate posts being front paged. But besides that, yeah i don't think its true, the 360 is selling enough i believe.

Sigh... I knew Destructoid opening up blogs for their members would lead to this.

This isnt an article, its just a blog post from a wishful thinker.

Gee.. thats funny.
Yahoo Finance says different.

Let's look at the headline:
"Head of Microsoft's Japan Subsidiary Says Company Has No Plans to Lower Price of Xbox 360"

That's kind of funny, reminds me of this article, which was published 2 days before the PlayStation 3 price drop

"Sony’s President Ryoji Chubachi has quashed Internet rumors about an upcoming $100 price drop for the PlayStation 3 console. Chubachi told Reuters that the company has “no immediate plans” of reducing the PS3 price."

Price cut + Halo 3 + GTA4 + Madden. MS is going to rack up the sale of this rumor is true.

Well for sure they're not going to drop the price in Japan. The premium there only costs a little more than the Wii.

I view them differently. It's a little different to refute retailers' ads that announce a price drop two friggin' days before your scheduled price drop (which you obviously notified the retailers about, hence their ads) than to refute a wild rumor that has no real-world sustantiation behind it.

What, was Sony really that worried about losing two days worth of sales over the PR hit they took as a result? Or are they that clueless as to the inner workings of their own corporation?

Neither option sounds acceptable to me.

Or, he's denying a pricedrop because there won't be a pricedrop. Just a thought...

There will have to be a price drop before the holidays. I can't remember a company sitting on launch price for three holidays in a row, ever.

But here is the thing, is the 360 selling (not out completely), but at a solid rate? Any decrease in the past 3-5 months? Really, why drop the price, from a pure money stand point? Though one could argue if they drop the price they would/could sell more, etc. which is entirely true.

Its sales are slightly lower than they were at this point last year.

Given the game lineup they've rolled out in the past 12 months, that leads me to believe that it's due to the market of $400 systems nearing its saturation point. If there were still loads of people willing to pay $400 for the Pro, it would be selling faster than last year. The game lineup is loads better now.
