I didn't know whether to post this here or in the Mobile Computing section so here it goes:

I am a legacy AT&T customer still holding on to my (awesome) v551, sadly it is dying and I wish to upgrade to a new phone. What I loved about the v551 is that it took a beating and kept working (until now). Here is what I'm looking at:

Motorola v365

-it's only triband, but it seems to be the most durable phone AT&T offers.

Samsung SGH-i607 ("BlackJack")
-it's quadband and Windows Mobile, but it doesn't look like it will take a fall
-I have though about buying this but will that protect the phone from my clumsiness?

I don't need a bunch of useless features but it would be nice to have a smartphone that could be use for email, file viewing, etc.

Any suggestions from members that have used these phones?

Go to ebay and buy an UNLOCKED QUAD BAND gsm phone, pop in sim card and continue service without new contract. Don't get the blackjack, much better smartphones for gsm. Just go buy any nokia candy bar shaped one if you want durable.

Go here and read user reviews. Usually the reviews are spot on. www.phonescoop.com

A good smartphone was the 2125 on cingular/att or also called the sp5m on tmobile. Both older gen tech but best I ever saw.

cingular 8125 on ebay for like $200

i own one and it is great.. been dropped 3 time and only scratches to show for it...

they are also water resistant and have been said to be able to take 3 dips in some H20 before failing. i have spilled a cup of h20 on it once and it was on and still works great.

a little big and only edge and wifi no 3g speeds, but 230kbps is good for most things

if you need faster CPU or internet the 8525 is a dual 400mhz CPU instead of a dual 200mhz and has 3g

I'm also a legacy att customer....if you don't want the latest phone check out a nokia 6310i....you just can't kill them, and are available on ebay. If you want the latest check out the nokia E50
