Greetings all!

I finally broke down and purchased Company of Heroes last night and I was a complete fool to not jump on this game earlier!!

I'm having some issues though. I'm running the game at 1650 x 1080 with pretty much ALL setting on High (Shadows on Medium), a few items on ULTRA and model detail maxed. I was having NO slow down what so ever until I upgraded from v1.4 to v1.7. Under the "shader detail" tab there is a new option for a DirectX10 setting and under "AA" there are a bunch of new options ranging from 2x, 8xCSAA and so on.

My problem is this. When I have the "Shader Detail" set to DirectX 10 and AA above 4x I can't see any weapons firing. I can see the weapon being fired, but not it's projectiles or where they land? Is this a common problem? What does CSSA mean for AA?

Also, this may be a stupid question, but is DirectX10 out?? I have Vista and am very confused if it's a download or something already pre-installed in Vista?

Thanks for the help all!!

Cisco :D

Are you using the new 160.04 WHQL's for vista? If so, that's your issue. I had the same issue with those drivers. Reverted back to 158.45 until something else hits the intarnetz

Hmm...I'm using the latest Vista 32-bit drivers from NVIDIA (158.24). Is the 158.45 for the 64-bit version?

Thanks!

the company of heroes 1.7 patch added full support for dx10, specifically:

DX10 Features

- Edges of particles are softened where intersecting 3D objects.
- Thousands of additional ‘litter’ objects in the world.
- Improved user control over anti aliasing settings.
- Alpha to coverage anti aliasing to improve quality of alpha test objects such as shrubs.
- Lighting quality has improved by moving all calculations per pixel.
- More precise point light calculations.
- Point lights can now cast shadows.
- 3D short grass on the terrain.
- Vertical refresh synchronization is enabled by default to improve visual quality by preventing tearing of the display image, use ‘-novsync’ to disable.
- Hardware PCF for improved shadow quality.

expect major slowdowns though, imo won't be worth running in dx10 for the preformance you will sacrafice

Yeah the slow down is aweful....just curious is this just a driver issue or what to expect from the 8800GTS and DX10. If so I'm not happy =(

For the 1.7 patch Relic states that you should use the 158.45 drivers. I'm running Company of Heroes on the rig in my sig @ 1680 x1050 8X CSAA 16X Anisotropic with all game settings cranked but terrain, instead of Ultra I have that on high.

Game runs smooth as silk and when the machine guns on the infantry and Sherman tanks fire I get nice bright muzzle flash that lights up the area and throws shadows and smoke !

Did you use Driver Cleaner Pro to remove the previous Nvidia video drivers first?

Actually, I have'nt tried the 158.45 Drivers. Going to give um a shot now. Using Driver Cleaner Pro too....I had forgotten about this program.

Thanks!
