g80 A3?

Here are some scores I've recorded.. I have quite a bit of stuff running in the background (printer / tablet drivers, etc), so its hardly a benchmarking only machine :p

Code:
Score - Processor Speed - GFX Drivers - Core Speed - Mem Speed

8945 - 2.7ghz - 97.92 - 600 - 850

9034 - 3.0ghz - 97.92 - 576 - 837

9202 - 3.0ghz - 97.92 - 600 - 871

10639 - 3.2ghz - 106.2 - 620 - 864

I also only have the free version so no score breakdown or other tests to run. New drivers seem to rock. Also I updated form P25 -> P28 shortly before the last test.

Just posting as confirmation that his 11k score sounds correct since he is higher clocked.

man this is awesome, i just fired up rivatuner, and ive got an a3 as well on my GTS320 from eVGA

i feel like i just found out ive got an ultra in my pc... with less shaders and memory... but you get the point

OK, My system is all stable, orthos, memtest, atitool etc.
i simply believe its simply my cpu is holding it back.
in most games i get v.high fps. like in CSS, with everything on absolute max (hdr, aa etc...) i get 100-200fps, never less.
maybe i should try my cpu @ 3.4ghz, i do have it stable there, but the volts are a bit high for my liking.

just put my cpu upto 3.4ghz and got 12,174, i believe it may be holding my gfx card back a bit :(

Opty 165 at 2907 with 8800GTX at 621/1566/1053 gets 10676 in 06 and 15984 in 05, just for comparison. Don't worry about 3dmark scores by the way, a high clocked C2D will do better because the resolution is 1024x768 or 1280x1024. If you have one of these cards, you'll be playing at 1600x1200+, where the difference between A64, C2D, and anything else is very small. Turn the 3dmark res up to that, and maybe even add a little AA, and I bet your score will barely change.

Anyway, I have an A2 GTX, it can do 648/1620/1053 if I keep it under 70, otherwise it's 621/1566/1053

i dont believe 3dmark can fully utilize my system at that reso, hense why the gts's can keep up?
i got 12k thats enough.

Well 3dmark06 scores a LOT by the CPU, which is why quad users get a much larger score than dual or single core, while the difference in most games will be equal.

well thats fine, im happy with my score, now i'll wait for gtx prices to drop and quads.

My A3 GTS runs at up to 700/1080, but with any more it starts artifacting pretty bad. Paired with 2GB of 4-4-4-12 PC2-6400 and an E6600 at 400x8 I got 11321 in 3dMark06.

I'm pleased.

I also have an A3 revision of the 8800 GTS 640MB. :D

Right now I have it set to 648/924, any higher on memory and it fails the test in RivaTuner.
What are safe idle and load temps for the GTS? (It is about 27C in my house since I live in Florida.) :(

What do you guys recommend for fan settings? Should I leave at auto?
With fan at auto it idles around 70C and at max it hits 89C (again with fan at auto).

Also I use ATItool to load the card, is this a good method?

I'm not sure what's safe, but mine reaches the mid 90's when overclocked to its max. I also cannot adjust my fan speeds due to Vista :(, but I know I need my case fans turned to max in order to get it that far. It's also damned cool here, by comparison. I wonder if I can push it a tiny bit faster when they fix the drivers to allow fan adjustment.

I also use ATI tool. Works great for me.

Rivatuner reads A3. I didn't pull of the cooler to verify, but I've tried a few (4) 8800 GTSs in the past and for all of them rivatuner said A2, even when flashed with the newest bios. And none of them were able to reach 675MHz on the core when fan was at 100%. So until someone proves me wrong I'll assume it is really an A3 :D.

Very impressive ! kudos to you ! My A2 GTS 640,will not go a lick over 570/1400/1860
and be stable ( 3 or 4 hours of FEAR @ 19x12)

Where in Rivatuner does it show what core revision do you have?

For those who have an A3 core, how old is your card? I am wondering how long they have been using that core for card builds. I am looking into possibly getting an 8800GTX but would like an A3 core if possible.

Aren't 8800GTX's with A3 core's, 8800 Ultra's?
:)

I would bet a dollar that newegg has them b/c they sell tons and would have to get fresh ones. That theory should apply to most online etailers.

If you got in on the $295 8800GTS 640MB deal from Buy.com, I'm pretty sure you'll get a A3, I believe some other people reported similiar results as me :)

My A2 is great @ 620/9XX (core/ram), but as soon as I try for 640 core it freaks and crashes :p. And ya ATI tool + RTHDRIBL is great for testing... what does RTHDRIBL stand for anyway so I can remember it easier :p

Use rivatuner to check the real clocks. I believe at around 635 it changes the core clock from 621 to 648. So there is no such thing as 630 or 640 or anything in between 621 and 648. But rivatuner will tell you how things really are.

620 and 640, not @ home atm so can't check the actual values.

How much does OCing the memory actually help in games? I haven't really tried to OC it since it stays the same in both 2d and 3d modes unlike the shaders/core.

And it looks like my card likes 621 but hates 648

Mine is around 3 weeks old. Bought on special from NCIX in Canadia. I believe they were ordered directly from EVGA at the time, so they'd have been the newest product off the line.

I think any major online retailer will have A3's by now. It's the brick and mortar stores I'd be wary of.

It helps, but not as much as OC'ing the GPU.

Awesome, because NCIX was where I was going to get my card. They are out of GTX at the moment and are expecting some from EVGA themselves for the end of this week so chances should be good of me getting an A3 I suppose... and hope.

I'm going to exchange mine at the end of the 30 day return period at Circuit City for a A3 revision. They've completely ran out of stock and will also be relocating to across the street. Seems like a good possibility of getting one.

Ooooh man, after seeing all of these insane overclocks, I'm ever so tempted to pull the trigger on an 8800GTS 640
