I'm just wondering which game you guys all liked the best. I remember playing Aerial Assault, but never really tried any of the others out. I'd like to try one of them, but which one?

Starsiege: Tribes, by a MILE (at least compared to the second one, as that's the only one I played past the first). It had the most massive community, and although I haven't checked recently I'm sure there are still quite a few servers running.

It had great gameplay, tight/accurate controls, great netcode, looked fantastic (for its time), ran well, and had tons of mods that really increased its replayability. Tribes is definitely an amazing game.

I loved Starsiege: Tribes, but I think that Tribes 2 wins out by a small margin when it comes to the fun factor that I had playing Capture the Flag.

Tribes 2. Turned out to be one of the best games ever after it was patched up.

sums up my feelings exactly. Also, the renegades mod for both t1 and t2 was THE shit. So much fun, so many hours. :D

I really enjoyed TV, its a very fun game :D

I agree. Disappointing when held up to t1 and t2 (It was dumbed down), but for hopping in for a few rounds it was fun to play. Just didn't have the staying power of t1 or t2, and I really miss the complex roles of those games. God I loved playing turret farmer, and heavy search and destroy. Had so much fun using heavy to sneak around the hills behind enemy snipers and planting the green boomie right at their feet.:D

T1 easily. Sure T2 was much, much better after a user created patch. Was actually pretty fun.

Oh yeah, from Feb 07'... this sums up how I feel. :)

Haha, I never played T1 in "it's prime" I actually found out about Tribes 2 the day it was released, I have played many hours on that game... best shrike pilot ever imo :p Course I never played competitively

T1 for sure. I was hardcore into that game for years. So much fun. For me, the game reached its peak with HomeLAN 203/213, Shifter 3c baby! Then I adopted to ShifterX, which I came to enjoy, but alot of my clanmates did not, but we still had a couple good clan matches. Now that those mods are gone, most of the people I still sorta know play the ShifterTG mod, which I really dislike. sigh, oh well, I rarely play it at all anymore.

Ahhh, the fond memories of Tribes 1 - I remember buying it and not really knowing what it was. It then sucked up hours upon hours of my time for about two straight years. I have yet to find a game that has kept my attention for so long.

Has my vote for best game ever!

Tribes 1 Renegades mod all the way.

I probably never gave Tribes 2 a good chance because it was awful at launch. And I was so into the renegades mod, going back to an "improved" classic tribes just didn't work for me.

I enjoyed tribes 2 alot more than tribes 1. I played T1 alot but the bones mod for tribes 2 was the best. Nothing beats Arial dogfights :D

Tribes 2 after the patches. It was such a rush to drive the hover bike full speed into an enemy base under heavy fire, eject out, and fly towards the flag going 250km/h. Then there was the whole getting back to base in one piece part... :D Katabatic owns!

The only one I have played was Vengeance. I thought it was OK, but most people that have played the others seem to think it is the worst, so I really need to play the first or second one.

Starseige: Tribes for the skiing. I used to go into maps alone just to find the best ski routes for flag capping and make videos (with the in game tool) for my clan. I used to fly across the maps sooooo fast by skiing.
Tribes 2 was good but it just never felt right to me because they slowed it down a lot.

I hope someone revives Tribes one day but I doubt it. I don't think I've spent more time playing an online shooter than with Tribes.

I think I liked the slightly slower Tribes 2... I could never get the hang of skiing properly anyways... it was still slightly do-able in tribes 2, but atleast I could snipe people :p

I spent hundreds of hours on that game...

Construction mod was kinda fun too... legos for Tribes...

I loved ramming people with the hoverbike going full speed across a desert plain... they just landed and are our of jetpack muahhaha. so much fun

At one point I got so good with suicide bomb dropping I could nail a flag carrier by bailing out of a bomber and it'd just crash into him... people got ridiculously pissed at me because it was like shooting a spinfuser the size of texas... pretty much impossible to miss if you time it right...

T2 FTW!
Still play......maybe I'll see someone tonight.;) I will Play Starseige Tribes once in a while, but it doesn't hold up to T2.

Agreed - but for T2.

The first was so much better than all others. T2 was good after enough patches, but it never captured my attention like T1. I played T1 to the point of marital problems, almost missing moving from DC to TN for a new job, and actually not buying other games for about 8 months. It was the first game to take me away from Descent 1 for more than a few days, and was not replaced as a gaming addiction until City of Heroes.

I used to practice Heavy Armor runs for all the maps. There were maps my tribe played that I would make HO capture runs on that other people said couldn't be made in a heavy. Quite a turnaround from my early T1 game experience with heavies, when I couldn't even cross the map most games without getting toasted. I even had a web site I ran with nothing but Tribes 1 HO demos.

RagManX

What teams did you play for... ? I made several HO demos as well, one of the very first. HO capping on SB/DX was easy, doing it on RC and RD was more difficult. I played for High Tolerance, The Abusive, [OxY] and Vanguard. At one time was on the number one team in T1 (High Tolerance) and the number one team in T2 (Vanguard). :D

what mod were you playing on doing heavy caps? If it was base, I commend you haha. On shifter though, it was easy enough to cap in heavy, just use dreadnaught and shockwave cannon.

I personally like Tribes 2. I'm not sure if I like the full version or the demo better. :p

I played a lot of Tribes back in the day... and when there was a Tribes 2 demo released I downloaded and installed immediately. I don't think I've laughed so hard while playing any game in my life. The demo was filled with soooo many newbs that it was actually fun. Just seeing a demo server full... and 10+ people at the vehicle station all fighting over being a pilot.... So many times a newb would run up and jump in ... fly up... swerve and come right back down and crash into the pad.... I spent countless hours messing around with the newbs laughing my ass off.

:D :D

I didnt play any mods, base is all I played. Heavy caps are very easy. Actually easier than light on some maps.

Its funny when people talk about how "fast" Quake and UT are, yet Tribes is so much faster. And much harder to be good at. Much higher learning curve.

The T2 demo wasnt released till well after the game was launched. I was a beta tester for T2, still have the CD. What a horrible experience that was...

QFT

Disc mines ftw.

Yep. Its my opinion, and the opinion of many others who where there, or know about it, that the reason T2 was so slow, is because the Dev team got embarrassed playing against one of the best T1 teams in Snowblind. They really got owned. They didnt like the mine disking, or being owned by the heavies to badly.

T1 base, 10v10 was/is so fun. Playing Stonehenge nekkid for 25 mins, ctrl-k'ing 30 times getting back on D, chaining some would be capper at the last second, sigh. No other game has come close to Tribes for me. I doubt it ever will.

I really liked the TAC (Team Aerial Combat) Mod. It used a pretty basic premise: touch the ground and you explode. This forced people to ferry teams to enemy floating bases. And made for some great times as you "bounce" your opponents off platforms and on to the ground. It was great because the gameplay made you use teamwork to win.

i loved tribes, i used to play it all the time, especially tribes 2 with some friends (we started a clan on tribal war league). i remember how intense tribes 1 was, with the insane speed and especially the duels you have with some people. everytime i would fight someone, the duel would last minutes with us flying, skiing, shooting, until one person ran out of ammo. it was the best thing ever, which i really enjoyed. when the third installment came out, i hurried and bought it immediately since it had the tribes name on it. unfortunately it didn't live up to its older installments. ah how i miss playing tribes 2.

Tribes 2 ftw.

Spam, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.... where's your head." Got me banned from a few servers. The most amazing, and annoying taunt I've yet to hear in an online game.

Are there any T2 servers still running? I'd like to play it. On heavily populated maps I'd always fly straight into their base, lay a satchel near the flag, and watch the giant explosion :D. This was the game that pulled me away from CS in my high school years.

yah theres a few tribes servers left. youll maybe see 1 arena server with a good amount of ppl, dedicated katabatic with 32 ppl and my clans elite warriors online is well populated especially on weekends.
