CNet has some photos of the 787 Dreamliner that we told you about earlier in the week.

Boeing's big project for this year is to get a dream project off the ground--literally. The aviation giant's first 787 Dreamliner is scheduled to emerge from the factory on July 8, with a first flight anticipated for later in the summer. This is Boeing's first all-new airplane in about a decade.

wow, anyone know where I can get a model of this for FS2004,as that's the closest I'll ever get to flying a plane.

Did you guys check out pic number nine? Those bastards also get a HUD, now I'm jealous.

what does HUD stand for anyway?

I wonder how much it would cost to take a flight in one of those planes.. i'd imagine tickets would become more expesive for flights on that airplane no?

This airplane is supposed to be very fuel efficient correct?

Yeah, I thought HUD's were mandatory for airliners these days. Just to be on the safe side while landing in fog or something.

There is no mandatory requirement for HUDs on commerical jetliners. They are available as production option on the Next Gen 737, (737-700/800/900) and can be retrofitted to earlier models. IIRC, Alaska Airlines has them on their 737-400s. They allow CATI instrument approaches to be flown to lower minimums. Anything CATII or higher is flown with the autopilot in control.

HUD = Heads Up Display

Price shipped to 48183? LOL.. man, I want to fly in one of those so bad. Everything about it looks incredible. I like how the remotes for the LCD screens have credit card swipers in them. haha.

Nothing beats the beauty of a 747. NOTHING! You hear me AIRBUS!

This is what AIRBUS looks like to me.

The 787 is sweet. A lot of real aviation innovation there. And hey, it can use normal airports and turn without shredding its tires, unlike a certain super jumbo nobody want's to buy. Poor airbus. They violated rule #1 in the comercial aircraft business: listen to your customers.

Although I doub't any of us will see an interior as sweet as that rendering. The aurlines will plack the seats in, but I do hear that Boeing has plaved limits on that with the 787 to ensure that passengers don't equate cramped sardine cans with their aircraft.

One thing that concerns me though is that the next-gen engines from GE and Rolls-Royce are still MIA.

Looks pretty awesome, but I doubt I will ever find myself on one. I have only flown twice in my 20 years of existence, and I don't see many more opportunities coming any time soon.

I'm 26 and I've only been in one flight.

I went to Disney when I was about 7... don't really even remember that flight. Then went again when I was 12 or so. I remember that one a little better, but still not so much. Past that, haven't ever even come across a need to fly. Should I want to travel a long distance, a car works fine by me. Never been overseas, nor ever really desired to. I don't have a fear of flying, but it just seems like such a pain in the ass these days anyways... I have no real desire to.

The only thing I've seen so far lately for it is Abacus publishing Fly the 787 Dreamliner for FSX/FS2004. It's not free though, but I'm sure as time goes on there will definately be some free ones out there. If you want though here's where I've seen it before: http://www.simshack.net/product_info.php?products_id=86 Lots of nice screenshots of it on that page too.

get into a corporate job. ive flown dozens of times on the corporate bill at age 21

For those who may be interested, Boeing is hiring people to built the 787, as well as their other planes. They have over 500+ orders for the 787.

Heh, my car I'm ordering has HUD :)

This is really a dream liner, what a nice piece of machine.

Yeah, you may be able to push it to that sort of speed, but no way it's stable. Soon as you try to do anything, it'll crash on you for sure.
