Microsoft has set up an iPod Amnesty Bin for employees to dump their iPods in favor of a Zune. Funny stuff.

In what can be seen as either a joke or a real attempt to get employees to give up Apple iPods in favor of the Zune MP3 player, the team at Microsoft that builds Zune has set up a bin at its headquarters so employees can drop in iPods they don't want to use anymore.

ill trade my nano even up for a zune micro$haft :) Are you listenin'? :D

Looks like a bunch of Microsoft employees dumped their old 4g Ipod and upgraded to the 5.5 Ipod, lol

I know it's funny to take shots at MS (even I love doing it and I'm not an MS hater), but you'd think that MS headquarters would be a great place to own a Zune. At the very least, the folks in house who got free ones would be around to share songs, and if this campaign (joke or not) works at all that's another bunch of Zunies.

The Zune seems like a good idea on a lot of levels (especially if they finally get the Zunes direct access to the Zune Marketplace). It might just be too late to overcome the mindshare of the iPod...especially if Apple gets off the stick and puts wireless (with sharing and direct iTunes access) into it.

Apple has already announced this product you speak of. It costs $600 with a monthly subscription fee ;)

You say that like it's a good thing, but my sarcasm meter is tipped off by the last smiley...

That bin is awfully empty. Bring a Zune player to the $150 price range and I might buy it. Bring the iPOD to $150 I might buy it. Right now I'll stick with my crappy nano that hardly ever charges that I got for free.

the zune can be easily found for about 220 :p 30gb, looks nicer than an iPod, has a better screen, and doesn't use iTunes :D

This amuses me, but i wonder how many iPods have been removed from that bin lmfao

Ipods would be okay if they didnt try to cram Itunes down your throat with it.

They do? Doesn't every company cram their stuff down throats anyway? If they didn't, there probably wouldn't be as much effort to develop alternatives.

Thats funny. Nut no one is giving up the iPod, especially if they purchased music.

I'm no macky but I don't get people who say itunes sucks. It does exactly what I want it to do. I don't listen to music that much, mostly d/l'd talk radio. So for people who say itunes is lame what should people be using and why?

Microsoft employees must be brave to purchase an iPod.

"Excuse me, what is that in your breast pocket next to the pens?"
"An iP--er, it's...for research purposes?"
"In the bin. Now.... No, the iPod. Not you...yet."

I wouldn't be shocked if Apple tries to threaten Microsoft over the usage of an actual apple on that sign!

Microsoft should have put a silhouette of an apple wearing a pair of white earbuds... :D

What's even better: The Zune amnesty bin would look just like the store shelves due to the high number of them sitting un-purchased. :D
