Anyone order a P180B lately and get a P182?

I know some people who ordered a P180B from newegg got one with all the P182 features.
Has anyone done this recently?

I was about to post this. Just recently purchased and received a P180B. Upon inspection realized that my unit had all the upgrades of the P182 like rear grommets for water cooling tubes, rear-access switches for top and rear fans and cable management spacing under the mobo. I was surprised to say the least :D

when did you purchase it?

An Antec rep posted something about this at Silent PC Forum. Apparently the 180s are getting structurally updated with the 182 revisions. I'm tired, so finding the link is left as an exercise for the curious, but it should be pretty easy to rustle up.

I got my P180 for $90 Black Friday '03 or '04, heh. The P182(SE?) gunmetal/mirror finish looks sooo tempting though, but the P180 is still in pristine condition. Grrr.

I got my p180b last week and it seems to have all the updates that the p182 has. I'm happy because I didn't want the gunmetal finish for an extra $40-$50 over the black finish. Especially now that I get all the "new" features that the p182 has.

Awesome case. I only wish that I could turn on the power without having to open the door without some modifications.

hey, i'm thinking of getting the p180B from Newegg really soon, the only thing I'm not sure about is my PSU (Seasonic S12 600W) since the PSU chamber on the p180B is on the bottom instead of the top like in my current case (Coolermaster Praetorian PAC-T01 Black). I'm only asking because my PSU has a 120mm fan on the bottom of it, would I have to mount it upside down in the p180B?

also what specific improvements are there in the p182 over the p180? that way i can tell if i get one as well...

My co-worker got that deal, the 180 was smashed up in shipping... RMA the 180, and ended up with a 182...

so does this mean the 180b is the same as the 182 except the case finish?

if so thats super sweet
can same some money...

yes, the new P180 cases are just like the P182, they just have the original colors
I think black looks better than the gun metal color anyway

Your PSU will work fine mounted normally. There is a deck that the PSU sits on and room for it to draw in air underneath. Additionally there is an intake fan in front of the PSU that pulls some more air in as well and pushes it to the PSU chamber.

No they are not the same, but very similar. The P182 has a different finish, raised motherboard tray that allows for cables to be routed behind it. The P182 also has two large holes on the back of the case with rubber grommets for water cooling, and finally the P182 has a couple of switches on the back to adjust the rear case fans speeds without having to remove the cover. One difference I am not sure about is whether or not the P180 has the holes in the motherboard tray for running cable. It's been awhile since I built a machine in a P180 case. The improvements are subtle, but they made a world of difference in my mind. I hated building machines in the P180 case. Especially SLI rigs, however I find the P182 to be tolerable and pleasant most of the time. Antec could take some time to take some of the edges off some areas of the case. There are plenty of areas you can cut yourself on. Also 8800GTX owners and large power supply owners need to know that you can in fact use the P182, but it isn't ideal. I'd suggest going with a different case for several reasons. The upper 3.5 inch drive cage is virtually useless in SLI configurations. You can leave the cage in, but the trays the drives actually sit in with the rails on them have to come out in order to allow an 8800GTX to fit. There is also not very much room if you are using a 600 series SLI board on the bottom of the case for decent airflow to your secondary video card. For those watercooling your video cards this is a non-issue. For air cooling it's a problem. Finally you can use a 9" long PSU, but the problem is that the fan in between the forward drive compartment and PSU chamber will have to be removed. You can relocate the fan using normal screws to the other side inside the drive compartment, but unfortunately you will have to use right angle SATA power and data cables for clearance issues. Your other option is of course to do without a fan, which I don't recommend normally.

thanks for the reply Dan

oh and i figured out what was different between the p180 and p182, anyone have a good reason why i shouldn't just go and buy one today (p180b that will hopefully be a p182)?

edit: just read the rest of dan's post, i think i need to look into it a little more...

only reason to buy a P182 is if you want the gunmetal color
depending on where you buy, there's a chance that you might get the old one, but if you order from newegg, chances are you'll get the new style

I'd rather buy the P182 and be sure I'll get the right case than spend $30 less and get the wrong one. It's a pain to send them back if purchased on the web and shipping a case isn't cheap. These things are nearly 40lbs. empty. I'd grab one locally If I were you and it's an option. I purchased mine the other day for around $159.99 I think and new what I'd be getting in the box.

i got a Fry's Electronics store nearby, and I'm pretty sure i saw a p180 there last time i went, they might have the p182 as well, if not I'll just get a p182 from Newegg

They do. I bought my P182 there this weekend. The two stores near me have all three on display. The original P180, the P182, and P182SE.

getting the right color is worth the small chance to me
I mean it's all but a guaranteed deal - Antec themselves has said all new P180 cases are the P182 design
if you have a frys locally, that's probably your best bet

Well I never liked silver cases anyway. So the gun metal color was actually appealing to me.

The only difference between the P180, P180B and P182 right now seems to be the color (silver, black and gunmetal, respectively). The P180B that I got has all features that the "newer" P182 design has, and you save roughly $40. So you pay extra it seems for that gunmetal color.

The P182SE has two differences. Mirror finish (doesn't seem like a good idea to me - kinda like a car with a mirror finish) and BLACK internal chasis finish. The others are stuck with silver internal finish.

Now. if I could get a P180B with a black interior finish, I would be the happiest gamer on Earth. I guess I just need to whip out that spray can.

Not quite true. There are still many older model P180's that are not going to have all the improvements found in the P182. As far as I am concerned those differences are what kept me from buying the older P180 or P180B in the first place. Now, if you are talking about getting a silver P182 in a P180 box then yes, you are correct the only difference is in their color. Unfortunately you can't really guarantee that you'll always get the newer P180 with the P182's improvements.

Of course, I meant that you might get older stock, thus, no improvements. I had one of the original P180's (before they had a black version). Now I have a P180B with the improvements, although I know that when first released, the black version was exactly the same as the original P180 without the improvements.

It's a crap shoot if you get either the P180 or P180B for the new improvements. Newegg seems to have the newer P180B's with the improvements for $130 whereas the P182 (where you know you'll get the improvements) is going for $170 I think. I'll take my chances to get black over gunmetal and hope to have the improvements.

Right, it's all in what you prefer. I don't mind the gun metal color. I think I got my case at Fry's locally for $159.99 or something like that.

well i just got back from Fry's and got the P182...i actually liked the gunmetal color more than just plain black. It could just be because i've had this Praetorian for the last two years and it's kind of boring me :p

Anyways, I'm going to wait till tomorrow to set everything up.

That's how much i paid

heh, guess i should update my sig now...

It's a nice case. Real quiet too and not bad looking. My biggest complaint is that it weighs more than my Stacker 830 does.

In any event, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Antec P190.

it didn't seem to weigh that much when i picked it up in the box...

not that it would really matter anyway since i don't move my comp hardly ever

now all i have to do is figure what i'm going to do with this Praetorian case after i assemble everything...

Target practice. That's what I am going to do with the collection of cases I have. (All the valuable ones I don't use I sell off)

Bought a P180B from NewEgg on the 15th, it has all the improvements, I was pleasantly surprised, expecting to go through cable routing hell. However: due to PSU relocation it was still a royal pain and the 8 pin motherboard aux power cable on my PSU wouldn't reach without flipping the PSU over, and then only just. Took me somewhere between 4 and 6 hours to get this looking clean, and mostly because of that single damn cable, which still shows more than I'd like. If it were 3, 4 inches longer I'd be in business -- can you get extensions for that? I don't exactly want to cut it, imagine that would void the PSU warranty.

I think I've seen some extensions for those but I am not sure where. That was one of the problems I encountered, but fortunately the cable on my PSU was just long enough.

Well it took about 6 hours but i got everything setup in my new case and it's pretty damn silent. I definitely have to say it was quite a challenge with this case compared to my Praetorian, but i guess i should have expected that since the P182 is quite a bit more complex than the Praetorian in terms of layout. Took me a little while to figure exactly how i was supposed to mount the HDD and my DVDR/RW drive since i'd never seen it mounted the way it is in this case. The wiring was...fun ( ), only real problem i had was the 4-pin power connector, in which i had to route it under and then in front of the motherboard...everything else took a little bit of planning to get it looking decent.

All in all it was worth it, though my back is killing me now.

Oh and i take back what i said about it not being that heavy...you can just feel steel that went into this thing :D

It sure does look nice on my desk right now though...
