The great "1080P War of 2007" is heating up as more manufacturers (like Phillips and Magnavox on June-1, only 3 weeks from now) enter the 1080P market.
Here's the latest company to enter the fray.....

Frys.com is selling an Emprex (Chinese?) 37" 1080P LCDTV for only ten ninety nine.
This new kid on the block, has Picture-In-Picture and twin 20W Audio Amps and looks suspiciously like re-badged 37" Westy------EXCEPT it has built-in TV (Westy does not).
The "Contrast" spec is nothing to "write home to Mother" about (its the same as my 30" Dell 3007WFP, which has been plenty adequate for my hi-rez gaming in Oblivion, NWN2, etc.).
For the price Fry is asking,, and its light weight (only 26lb) it sounds like real good deal for "College Gamers in small dorms, living on tight budget".
OK guys, take a look at Fry's big webpage (below)......and then post your "Opinions"......

HDCP? DVI? Only one digital input?

For just about the same price, in some cases less, stick with the Westinghouse.

Beware of "off-brand" models. I made the foolish mistake of buying an off-brand 40" LCD TV in 2005. The picture has deteriorated noticeably over the last 9-10 months. I can't wait to dump it when the laser TVs are released in December.

Rust, Like I said, "on a tight budget" :D
"only 1080i " ?? I missed that, (the hour's late) where is it?

Wire, look on bright side ;) .... "how many" dig connectors. does Joe College in his tiny dungeon room, need to play his shooter game?

Wolf, "laser panels" sounds great. Thanx for the info I'm still in the market for a 37.
But the "brand names" all have something wrong with them. Sharp, Mitsu, LG. Check the threads. Its discouraging
Sheesh, will I ever find a 37" with no serious quirks? Hmm, Westy is looking better; I'm reading the huge thread.
But this "no-name" Emprex might be a success. We'll see.

if the native res is 1920x1080, then the TV itself IS 1080p. no television signals are broadcast in 1080p, it's all 1080i (i don't know why). if youre using this TV to watch HD-DVD's or play 360 or ps3 etc etc, then it will display at 1080p.

that's what it seems like anyway o_O

It's in your description: "with support for 480p, 720p and 1080i digital HDTV signals." Also, this set has been discussed on AVS Forum and FW. But if you're only going to watch TV on it, it doesn't matter. If you're going to hook it to your PC to game or BR/HD DVD then you're missing out on the best picture and performance. I don't see why this is better than the Westinghouse - it even costs more.

The "1080p" term doesn't mean anything beyond 1920x1080 native resolution. It does not mean that you can place a 1920x1080 progressive signal on an input and the TV will display it on the 1920x1080 pixels. This TV in particular will only accept a 1920x1080 interlaced signal. There's a very good chance the picture will not be as sharp for PC use. Also, the de-interlacing processing may introduce lag for gaming. I'm not saying this is a bad set. I am saying why risk this purchase when you can get a TV that accepts 1920x1080 progressive on *all* inputs for the same price or less, and has scores of happy [H] users.
