I'm thinking about moving from my FX60 machine to a quad core intel and I have some questions I thought maybe someone could awnser.

Can you run 4 sticks of ram at full speed? I know if i did that right now my fsb would lower to 333.

As I understand it, the answer is yes. However if you're looking at 4 gigs of ram you're going to need a 64 bit operating system,** or Vista 32 bit will work right(thought I read this)?

I think your mobo selection is going to be the key, I'm certain someone can follow my post up with personal experiences on which boards might be better than others I've never bothered with 4 sticks personally.

64bit: will run 4Gb no problem
32bit: can't address more then 3.25Gb

I run XPx64 at work... in my opinion I would recommend 32bit if you are going with XP. If vista, well I don't even know if 64bit Vista is out, if it is thats probably fine since I bet they use the same drivers as v32bit Now, if you going to run nix or something then 64bit is a non issue.

I wouldn't see a problem running all sticks at the same OC (probably 400ish?).

well I don't even know if 64bit Vista is out

Yes, it is out... has been out actually. Drivers are really buggy from what I have heard, no experience with it though im on 32bit vista.

dont plan on using windows to much outside of vmware anyways, i just wanted to make sure it didnt act like amd with 4 sticks
