Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 $200 Shipped

Man, I was going to wait for the quad later this year, but that e6600 price...$217 shipped + tax to me...that is hard to resist! I already have a 6300 like purple haze above...

e6600 or 4gb (2kits) Super Talent...or save money for later??:(

I know that nobody knows for sure, but do you guys think that the E6600 will be going for around $200 (or maybe less) come July or August? Cause I've been itching to go for a C2D upgrade, but I just can't justify it right now, seeing as my trusty old 3800 X2 is still going strong and there really aren't any games I can't run at max settings. However, this is a great deal, and if its possible that it won't be around again till after the summer, I might need to bite on it.... :D

I'd bet that come August you should be able to get one of these for ~$200 if not less. Price drops come again in the fall, but I bet this isn't the only sale we'll see on these in 4 months.

BTW, I bit. I don't have a mobo, or any other piece I need for my build, but I got a hell of a deal on the CPU. :D In SC with free shipping total was $199.99. :)

From what it looks like, prices on CD2 went down for a reason, and I dont see it going back up.

Intel had the price cuts planned for April 22nd for a long time, so that wasn't some big revelation. My feeling is that this is just a sale, I doubt you'll be able to get an E6600 for $200 too consistently.

I told people not to buy any cpus for like a week or so after price cut but does anyone listen. :)

Now the E6600 is freakign $200, which is almost the price of the E6420. Crazy.

If I had to guess those price cut charts were way off. How could frys be making any money on these heh. They must have gotten them fairly cheap.

So uhh... any of you guys buying one of these need a copy of Supreme Commander? I have an extra... ;)

No, the price cut charts are likely right on target. This is just a hot deal offered by Outpost and you see how long that it lasted.

So now I'm at 200 for proc, 300 for mobo/ram and 500 or so for the video card. That's a thousand bucks right there.
So I figured that if I actually plopped down the 200 bux for the cpu right now, that would be stupid because by the time I could actually afford to get all the other parts to use it, the chip will probably be 200 on a regular basis or even cheaper by then (around the year 2015 when I can afford the upgrade).
I'm in the same boat. I saw this post and walked into the kitchen and grabbed my wallet then realized that I'd need a motherboard and ram too and all of the sudden this great deal started costing a lot of money....more money than it's worth to upgrade an overclocked 4400 x2. That and my older video card will be due for an upgrade for the next round of games. I'll wait for a combo deal before I bite on this.

On a side note I have an E6600 sitting on my desk for someone, damn thing is blazing fast. I unrared a tv show last night at 9 seconds.....it took my 4400x2 16 seconds. Draw that out over a three hour video render and that's a lot of time savings.

Yeah, it looks like it sold out. The $302 is for the OEM version anyway, they were selling the retail for $200, but it's no longer listed.

Good deal.

*edit* Meh, come summer the q6600 should be about $300.

Thats still half a year away.

According to the world clock, which uses the old Greenwich Mean Time, summer this year officially begins June 21st at 12:57 in the morning.

By my calculations. that's 1/6th of a year away.
Half a year from now would be well into the fall (it'll be about 70-75% over by then), if not bordering on the winter. November 25th is 3 days after thanksgiving. In the north, that'd be winter, although, officially, winter doesn't start until 12/21/2007 this year, I'm sure if you are in somewhere like jersey, you'd have snow by thanksgiving.

Now that this deal is dead (hopefully not for long) lets see what kind of clocks these Frys chips are getting. DHL has already sent out many of them. :)

The e6700 is already $339:

The egg as the e6600 for $235, I'm sure they won't let Fry's get away with out doing them for long:

Are you kidding me? Fry's prices, notably their sale prices (and mobo combos) have long destroyed newegg's. I've cried many times when I see threads about fry's combos for the lack of a store w/ in 100mi. newegg on the other hand.. usually has inflated prices.. (especially on their sales) and the rarity that you see deals from them anymore is typically on open box components.

I would doubt you'll see an e6600 for $200 at newegg for quite some time.

Mine has shipped. Now it's just a waiting game until it gets here.

I need to get a motherboard and a few extra components before I can get it up and running though.

Alright, this morning I'm kicking myself for missing the deal. I have a custom build to do and would have swapped my existing e6600 into it (doesn't OC worth a damn) and put the new one in my own box. Sigh. :(

I also see that Outpost finally removed the Q6600 from their weekly deal banner ad. Was hoping they'd list it soon. I'd be all over that if it were < $500.

I paid $235 for my E6600 from ZZF over the weekend and although this was a better deal I guess I didn't miss too much since I got a free copy of Supreme Commander with my order and my chip will be here today or tomorrow.

Smart :)

Actually, I believe his intent was that the q6600 dropping under $300 was still a half year away -- not that summer was still a half year away. His opinion of the q6600 dropping to sub $300 in Q3 07 seems to be the predominant one.

Then again no one can fully predict the future either, so if it does come sooner you won't hear an argument from me :)

Well...it might be dead now. But the answer to all your woes lies in the

e6420. Same specs except a lower stock clock speed. Which is nothing if you plan to overclock. And from the reviews I've read, the e6420 is a great overclocker. Should have no problems reaching the overclockability of the e6600.
Also, the e6420 is going for 200 or less just about everywhere I checked.
196 on the egg.

Check the results from people on xtremesystems forum. There are a number of people getting e6420's that are not overclocking very well at all. The e6600 is still your best bet for the highest overclock for the price from what I've seen. It all comes down to which stepping and week you get with either processor.

Don't konw where you're reading that from on xtremesystems. I searched the forums and only found 2 references to the e6420 and neither of those posts mentioned actually using the chip. Can you give me a link by chance?
