DigTimes says that Intel will be cutting desktop and server CPU prices by as much as 40%. High end dual and quad core processors will see the biggest price drops but even the Pentium D 935 is getting a 37% cut in price.

Pricing for the Quad Core Xeon X3220 has fallen by 38% from US$851 to US$530 while the X3210 has been cut by a slightly higher margin from US$690 to US$423. Prices for the four Dual Core Xeon processors, the 3070, 3060, 3050 and 3040 have also been reduced by between 40% and 9%.

People laugh at those old Pentium Ds, but the truth of the matter is that they are great budget chips, and are actually highly competitive with mid-end-K8 chips on price/performance. Glad to see them so cheap, I may grab two so I can double the cores on my x264 converting farm. :D

This is awesome news as Im up for upgrading shortly. I was also focused on an E6600 for the extra cache but if they are adding the cache to the 6400 and calling it e6420, that price list makes that the new sweet spot. Thats mo mony for other stuff :)

great news for me as well as I am gearing up for a major upgrade soon.. that 6700 is looking good =]

Prices have alreadly dropped at some places, though not as much as shown in the chart. The cheapest I've seen the 6700 for was around $359.00.

Hmm, getting started building my new quad core workstation may have just shortened, tremendously. :D

Hmmmm maybe I will just build a new machine then.....sheesh I really would like a quad core....

How is this news when the price cuts are on April 22nd, but the article was posted on April 24th? Thanks for news from 2 days ago, Digitimes. Before you know it, you'll be as up-to-date as a monthly magazine.

I noticed the prices going down 4/22 & 4/23 on NE. They're pretty damn close to the "rumored" prices that were posted 6 weeks ago (give or take a couple $). And digitimes is posting the same prices as well. If all holds true then that q6600 will be ~$266 in a few months :D

No cuts announced for the 5300 series Xeon quads... Guess they are still too new.
