New Nvidia 158.19/XP/32 = Wow for 8800

Did you follow the new directions for updating nvidia drivers? Are your chipset drivers up-to-date?

That's a pretty big drop and most people have been reporting higher performance in Vista than XP with properly configured SLI setups with the 158.18 drivers in Vista.

yes I have all last versions

However, anyone else having any trouble with HL2? Deathmatch & Lost Coast are both fine however HL2 will not load, my screen goes blank for a moment after I've tried to launch and then I'm back at the desktop. Uninstalled & reinstalled game & drivers (using DC for drivers, safe mode etc). Updated everything via Steam.

Excuse me quoting myself, but I found out what was wrong with HL2. Seems that with this new driver the 8800 cards don't like to have 4*MSAA selected in game (which worked fine for the 97 drivers). To get around it you have to add '-autoconfig' (without the quotes) to the end of your shortcut for HL2. This will enable you to load the game & choose 2*MSAA (which works fine). Remove the autoconfig entry afterwards otherwise you'll have to select 2*MSAA all over again!

Cheers.

Bravo! Now that is what being [H]ard is all about :)

(incidentally, 2*MSAA is available for me without modifying the shortcut - not sure why that is!)

Just piping in here late.. but these drivers do seem to be the best I have used yet with my 680i/SLI setup.. performance, IQ, and stability.. finally something good! I was really starting to doubt the time, $, and energy I have put into this Nvidia monstrosity I have... anyways.. haven't gamed it out hardcore on them yet, but so far so good.. and HD DVD (video) playback looks perfect! I'm going to hit the games again pretty hard here now that I am not traveling.. whew.

i got the new vista32 bit drivers for my 7900GT and wow they finally are decent again. the new ones from april 17th make me happy! went from having like 40FPS in source to 160 with max settings

It worked fine, and seemed faster, up until after about the 4th reboot. Then it lost the ability to display at 1920x1080. The highest I could go was 1280x1024. A second reboot brought it back, another lost it again for good. Tried everything. Drive Cleaner, uninstalling and reinstalling several times. Worked nearly 3 hours trying to get it to recognize the monitor display settings, including different monitor inputs. No joy. So I'm back with 100.65. This is getting tiresome.

Vista32
Nvidia 8800GX
Intel D975XBX2 MB with 2G Ram
Intel QX6700 CPU

That doesn't make any sense. You sure you didn't install or change something else after the 3rd reboot?
