I'm looking to replace the cables on my HD580's since I've gone through two pairs of the stock cables over the past 2.5 years and both have eventually led to spotty sound on the left side. I use them just on my computer (A2 ZS, cheapo Rolls amp) for gaming and music so I'm not looking to spend a ton of money (<$75 would be ideal) but want something that's good quality and will last longer than the stock cables have. Any recommendations?

the stock HD650 cable is a good upgrade and is cheap. You won't find any commercial cables for that price range, but maybe something using canare starquad could be made for that price. I've got an extra cable I've been playing to play around with to make a DIY upgrade cardas cable

The problem I've generally had with the Sennheisers isn't the cable but rather the plugs on the phones getting weak. Check to make sure that's not what's broke. Either way you can solve both problems by soldering the cables in. Pop open the phones and you'll see terminals you can solder the cables on. Do that, then cover it with silicon sealant (make sure it's non-conductive) to hold it in well.

I've had to do that with both pairs of Sennheisers I owned eventually. Once I did that, no further problems.

Definately the HD650 cable directly from sennheiser is the best inexpensive solution. I broke 2 HD580 cables, and modded one, but eventually I just bought the HD650 cable after trying the one from my HD650's

Definately a marked improvement, and it doesn't break nearly as easy. I have not had a problem since switching cables.

the 650 cable is wrapped a little more than the 580's/600's cables.

get the 650 cable and see how it works for you
dont go blowing a ton of money on a cardas cable or another high-end cable until you have a nice amp and have been convinced that cables "make" a difference.

If the cords from an HD595 work, i have extras you can have. (you just gotta pay for shipping)
