This is the error I get:

The temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the temp folder.

The drive has plenty of space. I even emptied the temp folder and checked permissions for users and admins. It should work yet it does not.

Any ideas?

is your 'My docs' folder in the default location, or have you moved it?

I have head of some issues with it being unable to find my docs to create a folder that it wants to create in there if it is not in the default c:\documents and settings\username...

Yes, it has been moved. However the drive it is on has plenty of space

I found the answer. UAC has to be turned on for the install to work.

Hmm, i was able to install it without turning off UAC. It sounds like moving the default location of Documents was the real cause, but i don't know why turning off UAC would fix that.

The easiest way to get around that if you have UAC off is to run the installer in Windows XP compatibility mode =)

Does this mean UAC needs to be turned on all the time for Acrobat Reader to work?

Had the same problem with 32bit and 64bit Vista Ultimate.

I have UAC off and it's staying off, if thats what is effecting this then adobe can take a running leap...

I dont even know why I care, adobe reader is the biggest piece of bloatware around, i only need it about twice a year anyhow.

I really don't think I could sum up my feelings any better. :S

I've had same problem won't install, maybe Vista has it's own PDF Format in the OS, if anyone finds it let us all know.
