Lucky Duck Green Laser 34.95

I'm thinking about picking up the Lansa 20mW model, the Samsung 3B chip is said to be the same one used in the 50, 75 and 100mW models.

Anyone have some links to modifying these little guys?

Wow, they have a 20mW Green Laser Pointer Pen Black

There's a discussion going there about the validity of the numbers. The high mw lasers don't have IR filters. Most of that power is IR and it isn't even collimated like the 532nm line. Without an IR filter, the numbers are fake.

great price for a greenie but i'd have the same questions as right below this.

Are these the same quality as lucky duck?
x2. it's a great price but the LD ones are pretty good.. mines been cranked up to around 17mw (measured with a calibrated led) for over a year and still works good. I play with it quite a lot.

the 10mw and 20mw versions they show on the same page are surely the exact same laser pre-modded for you.

however, since they are labeled as 10/20 mw, you take the chance of customs confiscating them.

Can the green laser do things like the red one in the do it yourself guide like pop balloons and sting you arm or is it just more visible?

I got a lucky duck greenie a while back for $50. Is there any guide to modding it to a higher mw rating? Is it easy? Thanks for any info! :D

You can find these pretty cheap on eBay.

The ones on eBay are $20 shipped and have 5mw like this one... a picture/drawing on one of the auctions shows the laser is completely visible all the way to the stars... is this realistic or do you only see the dot at the end of the laser?

You should actually see the entire beam; not just the dot.

the stronger ones >50mw can pop balloons but it's not good for that as it'll literally blind you.

try the candlepower forums. very easy to mod to >15mw. some people have gotten them to >50mw but I dount they last long at that power. Mine is at 17mw and has been reliable for over a year.

edit: here's a link http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=65847&page=1&pp=30

Ordered, thank you! Anybody have any idea how to mod?

see above

extremely realistic. that is the beauty of green lasers. you can see the beam going up up and up into the sky at night. you can't see the beam in a lit room unless there is at least a little bit of smoke in the room. You may or may not find instructions on how to mod the ones you find on ebay.

I pretty much just impulse bought that.

I'm a huge noob with lasers...anyone wanna tell me what to expect? Safety guidelines? etc.

I suggest you go do some reading in the laser forum. Read all the stickys.

Lasers are a fun "toy" but they can quickly do some serious eye damage - and not just from shining it into your eye.

one big thing that bugs me that people say they'll do (not just here):

Playing with cats on all but the weakest red laser is irresponsible. You can easily injure the cats eyes.
Shining it on dogs/cats/birds/etc. - Don't do it. Not even to bugs. (except mosquitoes!)

Wow...I didn't realize these things were so dangerous.

I'll have to use it when nobody else is around then, I guess. Luckily, I don't have any pets, so that's a non issue.

I'm at work and don't have the link in front of me but it looks like you can't pot mod these since the APC mechanism prevents any over wattage.

I called luckyduck, they assured me you can mod this but no guarantees it is better or worse.

Does the luckyduck come with an IR filter and if not, is the power low enough to safely use w/out glasses?

Wow, really? I've had 2 vets recommend them for toys...oops. I've seen "cat" versions in pet stores too...

it's ok as long as you don't shine it into your eyes. if you crazy mod it (>20mw) the splash inside your house can give you a headache and possibly even cause spots in your vision. beware of reflective surfaces.

those obviously (hopefully) are weak red lasers. don't be foolish with your pet's vision.

all but the weakest red laser

remember lasers are a cool "toy" but so are .22 caliber rifles.

Only a .22 caliber rifle can kill you...

Lasers != guns
Lasers are just toys with the capability of blinding you if you're not careful. I suspect welding arcs and masturbating are probably worse for your eyes.

thanks OP

anyone want to throw up a picture of where they drilled the hole in the plastic? i'd like to do it right the first time :)

I was reading some customer feedback on the wicked lasers site, I thought this was quite funny,

This really freaks out the Iraqi Insurgents at night. The green highly visible beam scares the would be insurgent away from US Soldiers. This actually is a anti terrorist non-lethal weaopon in Iraq.

.....I don't think think this soldier realises that the "Iraqi Insurgents" arent just getting freaked out. Rather they are most likley afraid because it looks like a sniper rifle is chasing them down at night hahaha.....but remember its just a toy! haha
