Whenever I boot my pc I get on to windows and the POST and everything is FINE. But when I go onto a game my system sometimes beeps. I can't figure out whats wrong with the PC so I gave up searching (its fine! minus the beeping). I have had several upgrades in the past. the beeping started a little before I installed my 2gig of ram. I know my new psu has nothing to do with it, although I did get a new cpu a while back. Hell I want to disconnect the buzzer but I can't; its on the mobo! Ive tried altering the registry to turn off the buzzer and the cmd promt way as well... NO LUCK... (Its driving me crazy...). If anyone knows a way of stopping it at all please pipe up!

Help Greatly (BEEEEEEP) appreciated

p.s. the beeps follow no kind of patern and tend to happen when reloading a games level or when doing something I've already done again (e.g. clicking a menu).

Check your CPU temperatures. A lot of motherboards will beep when the CPU temp. exceeds a safety threshold.

yeh I did replace cpu fan with an arctic cooling one. but thats more efficient than a stock...
I think its something else really. my bios is annoying it refuses to let me set the safety temps... I wish I could simply switch off my buzzer.

More often than not check the seating of your memory.

iirc overtemps will beep like a European police car.

Started *before* the RAM upgrade..

Check your PSU to Vid Card maybe its loose or perhaps the card isnt properly seated from when you were in there upgrading.
I know if you dont plug the power into your Vid card or it doesnt have enough juice it will give one looooong beep.

Install Some Thermal monitoring software.

I really do think your CPU is overheating, and just becuase your heatsink is more efficent does not mean it has proper contact with your CPU.

Check your temps. Especially when the beeping starts.

check your mobo manual if you're getting unique beeps. usually there will be a beep code guide in there.

Thanks cpt. falcon, I opened up my pc and pushed my memory down HARD (hehehe). Its not done it since. bin playing medieval 2 on it and its fine. played cod multiplayer till 1:00 in the morning; NO BEEPS!!!

Thanks a lot!

(few I thought my memory was knacked! Installed the mem a while back couldn't remember whether it beeped before the install... must've been that cause it gone...)

Ok no dice its back. I've tried everything now. Can't turn off cpu alarm in the bios can't unplug the damn thing. tried EVERY windows way of doing it and CMD prompt way as well. HELP!

My cpu runs (supposedly) at 78 degrees (high! I no). this is with an actic cooler cpu fan brand new! Its only a Athlon XP 2600+! (this is my work pc) the alarm is set to 80 degrees in the bios but I can't stop it! I'm using motherboard monitor 5 to track my temps.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH my computer is beeping also! Does yours also beep the YMCA song? I think its a conspiracy!

Do you have your speakers plugged in? Might as well ask... As a good PC technician you start with the most obvious, :p .

If your CPU is at 78c then you have serious issues. If it was fine before yu installed the fan then you might have knocked the heatsink loose from contact with the core. In doing that your idle temp has shot up and then when you load a game you load temp shoots up over the threshold set in the BIOS and thus your computer will beep at you. Just because you put on a fan that is better than the stock one doesn't mean squat either without the proper heatsink-to-core contact.

This happened after you installed the after market heatsink? Did you apply the thermal paste correctly? If that got goofed up it wouldn't really matter how good the heatsink is, 'cuz the heat isn't being transferred there very well at all.

Right this is the FULL story of my acer t120e pc

1. I have my pc for 1yr its fine
2. it starts making a grinding noise from the psu.
3 I'm a n00b back then so I send it to the shop. They say that its was the cpu fan, this I realise now was a mistake!
4 they replace the cpu fan with the arctic cooler fan (don't no about the thermal paste!)
5. I check the fan and its on securely but my MBM 5 says my cpu is at 77 -78 degrees, hell MBM 5 says so NOW!
6. I put in more RAM
7. I put in new psu (JERKS AT THE PC SHOP GRRR)

I installed an extra case fan which put my cpu temp down a bit, this stopped the warning alarm aka the beeping. But this is a bit of a botch really. on inspecting the cpu fan I found that it was properly installed and seated... don't no whats up with the temp readings, may be a faulty sensor or the bios...

Is MBM properly setup to recognize the sensors on that particular motherboard?? Is it reading in F or C? Have you tried going into the BIOS and seeing if there is a temperature shut down setting? Have you tried to change the warning settings in MBM or exit the program all together?

It is possible that it's also giving out a faulty reading. I'm suspecting thermal paste issue.

re-seat the HSF. clean off the old TIM and apply a new coat (AS5). If it still idles high, you probably need an RMA.

but the bios can't lie, can it? unless theres faulty sensors. I suspect the guys at the pc shop did a botch job on my cpu fans thermal paste... should I take it off and reseat it? do you think they put on too much and its insulating the cpu? I only instal mbm5 when the beeping started...

I'll second what enginurd said. Take off that HSF, clean it off and put on some new Arctic Silver. You're taking a chance with your components if you don't- especially since you didn't put it on yourself and don't have an idea if the paste was applied correctly.

As far as the temperature sensors, they can definitely "lie" if they're faulty. It's possible. I still really think it's the HSF. That temp is way too high.

The CPU temperatures that you provided.... are they for idling, or for when you were gaming (ie minimized window after 1hr of gaming and checked temp)?

Your CPU temp will go up significantly while gaming and that is the most probable cause of the mysterious beeping.

Just pointing it out..
