Official Dell 2707WFP Thread !!! Info, Pictures, Reviews

Has anyone connected an Xbox 360 to this? Does the monitor do a good job of deinterlacing 1080i? I'd be interested in seeing if it is true that this monitor can't take 1080p over VGA. If not I would be very dissapointed.

I'm debating on if I should return my Benq 24" and get this Dell one.

I know people have said VGA/component doesn't support 1080P but has anyone actually own this monitor and tried it? I find it hard to believe VGA doesn't support 1080P.

The price for the 2707WFP is now lower than the 3007WFP on dells website by 25 bucks.

Knee jerk impression, looks very good. Contrast and brightness are more that adequate set at 50. Colors do look nice but I’m not sure if it’s better. Reds look neon red…

So on the right still wrapped is the 2707...but what are the other monitors in the picture? I'm curious to see them all side by side.

I'm wondering if you are going to get a new dual arm to support these beasts or if you are just going to use the stand(s).

You are upgrading from a 2405 and a 2005fpw?

I'm going to use the same Ergotron HD arm as it is rated to hold up to two 20LBS displays depending on there depth. As the distance from the rear mount to the front of the screen increases the weight that the arm can hold decreases.

Yes, my old setup was a 2405 and a 2005.

Many pics here:

Can you test to see if vga/component supports 1080P?

Yes that would verify it. Either 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 via VGA.

I'll see if I can set my card to do 1920x1080 by I would think that it must do 1920x1200 through the VGA input. It may not know what to do with 1080p but 1920x1200 is the native res of the display why wouldn’t it work?

This may be just what I'm looking for. I currently have a gateway 21 inch. I really can't complain. I have no problems with it really. There is a small backlight bleed, but I can only see it on a black background if I look really hard. I think I only see it because I initially read about backlight issues in a forum and i started to look for it. I purchased a 42 1080p Westinghouse (when the 42s were available) for my beach house, but before I took it down there I had to hook it up to my computer. I was really impressed with the gaming and the image quality as well as the crispness of the text. The 2707WFP sounds good because it is a slightly higher resolution on significantly smaller monitor than the 42 inch. So I figure if the 1920x1080 res looks good close up on 42 inches, 1920x1200 should look pretty damn good on 27 inches. Plus 27 inches will fit on my desk with the hutch that I just built :D.
Then again for the price I could get another Westinghouse and if I don't like, I can use it a monitor in another part of my house. What do you guys think, which would you rather have. A 1080p monitor that is slightly larger (eg 37 inch) or the 2707wfp for around the same price.

On a standard desktop I go with the 27”. If you are going to be setting on your couch 5 to 10ft away then I’d start thinking about a bigger display.

Hey hey Tanquen!

Do let us know about the Bezel -- does it get in the way with multi-monitor setup being bright alu than dark like our 2405s? Curious...

I so envy you... :D mad! ROFL!

Can anyone post some more experiences with this display.

Some experiences:

On the Dell site it shows the weight as:
Weight (Monitor Only)
12.51 Kg (27.5 Ib)
Weight (with packaging)
16.0 Kg (35.28 Ib)

I thought, (oh man) it’s too heavy as the HD can only support 40LBS or 20LBS for each display. But I was bothered by the fact that the 27” was heavier than the 30”. I found the users guide on the Dell site and there it was:

Weight Monitor (Stand and Head)
12.5 Kg (27.5 lb)
Monitor Flat panel only (VESA Mode)
8.5 Kg (18.7 lb)
Weight with packaging
16.0 Kg (35.28 lb)

So it’s cutting it a little close but it worked. :)

I really like the fact that they are at 1920x1200. For me it just makes more sense to stay at that res. My games play real nice at that res and they would all be too slow on the 30” at its much higher native res. Also it perfect for 1080p stuff like the HD 1080p Apple move trailers and I’ll have a HD DVD drive at some point. I tried a DVD last night just to see and it looks very good stretched to fit, better that the 2405 did.

So, it’s only been a few days but I think the rotated 27” may just be too big. :( I felt the same way about the 2405 but this is a little different. I’m good with the horizontal 2707 but even with the displays set quite low the rotated 2707 makes for a lot of ground to cover from top to bottom. If they had a 24” with the same improved color depth and other new features of the 2707 I think that may be a better way to go. It could be that going from the 20” to the 27” for the rotated display on the right is just going to take some getting used to. I even thought about a 27” and 24” on the right but the 24” would not have the same dot pitch or better color depth. I may swap the one on the right out if Dell makes a new 24” that matches the 27”.

The displays seem a little reddish or have a bit of red push. I’m at the office now and a coworker just dropped off his Color Vision Spyder2. I hope it looks even better after a quick calibration.

Anyway, nice to have such troubles I guess. :)

Hey KrulL! Sent you a PM.

Fedx just dropped off my 2707. Can't hook it up just yet but will be able to later. I also have a 3007 so i should be able to post some differences between the two.

Tanquen I wanted to ask you since you own a 2405, if this monitor worth to get into trouble by selling my 2405 for it. Is the size so much bigger to justify the switch ?

Just hooked up the monitor and so far as a very quick observation text is much bigger (to my eyes) on this display compared to when I view text on my 3007. I didn’t think there would be that big of a difference between viewing text on a 27” display running at 19x12 versus viewing on a 30” running at 25x16. Anyway, for my somewhat old eyes it is a welcome surprise. I haven’t noticed any grain with the increased pixel pitch of the 2707. I played a few rounds in Counter strike source and I saw no ghosting/smearing. But, then again, I didn’t notice that on my 3007. Well, that is it for now, as I use the display more I will post more of what I discover about this display.

I was curious to see this monitor in action with CS:S. Does it look grainy? Is the 3007 better?

Again, i haven't played much CSS yet. But what little I have played, I have not seen much of a difference between the two monitor’s. As for the 2707 looking grainy, to my eyes, I do not see any “grain” in the frame. I do not think you can go wrong with either monitor in regards to CSS, assuming one has a rig powerful enough to run the 3007 at its native resolution. Give me a little more time to play with the 2707 and I will post further in regards to CS:S.

Me no see grainy either. I think the 3007 would be a mistake for a gamer. CS:S runs great at the native res of 1920x1200 on the 2707. I think that the 3007 would not look as good if scaled to fit or it would be slower (too slow) if you played at native res. I already feel that way about some games (BF2) at 1920x1200. But I want to play them at the native res and the 3007 would just be that much worse.

:p

My setup history:

24" & 20"

27" & 27"

30" & 27" Now 30" X 30"!!!!

Hi Tanquen,
Wow I'm envious too. :p

Would you mind taking some pics of the 27" side by side with the 24"? I'm trying to decide between these 2 monitors. Does the 92% Gamut make things prettier, or are they more for graphics people? Does the added screen size make text easier to read or makes text too blocky? Any other opinions you would give a guy trying to decide between the two?

Thanks!

Bumping to see if it supports 1080p over VGA? I just sold my Westy 37w3 due to it not fitting in my new house (workstation den) so eyeing this one over the 2407. I would have gladly bought the 2407 had it not being plagued with current issues and on the same note, nobody here in US appears to have got the A04 revision yet so my hunt for the perfect monitor is still on

Hi Tanquen,

This is something I'd like to know too. I don't even know what the term Gamut means but it seems like people are excited about these new 92% gamut monitors. Comparing to your old 2405/2005 can you see a difference with this new monitors colors? I'm no graphic designer, so is it something the average joe will notice?

So anyone find out if the VGA/component does support 1080p or not for the XBox360?

Thanks.

Can someone please lend Tanquen an Xbox360 so that he can tell us how the 360 looks when connect through the Component input of the 2707WFP?? :D ;)

Would love top know what ya think between the two :) I have the Apple 30" Display and really like it, but I dont like the silver frame I prefer black, as well as black Silverstone case and black Saitek keyboard looks cooler, and easier on the eyes.

So my Apple 30" is the first one out at this size, meaning the technology is little old ? And the 27" Dell is brand new tech with better image and less ghosting I guess. First off is there a big difference noticable difference in size for gaming between the two ? And then the bigger issue is games must play better on the 27"

Anyone with 2707 want to share more info and opinions please? :D I want to buy a new monitor!!

Bumpin this thread! Have any of the 2707 owners on this forum try out the component connection yet?? I'm really interested in purchasing this monitor.
