HyperWRT and DDWRT users - dyndns.org problem and questions

I currently have a WRT54G running the HyperWRT4.20.9 firmware. However, it seems to have lost it's ability to update my dyndns.org host. I would update, or switch to DDWRT, as I have been planning for a while, but I am back at college now and if all of my settings get erased it will be a large undertaking to get them back. So, how can I preserve all of my settings, and update the firmware? Is it even possible? Thanks.

I don't know about hyperwrt, but DDWRT lets you save your configuration to a file on your desktop, then once you upgrade it you just load it back up via the web GUI. It's under administration|backup.

You'll find dyndns.org works wonderfully well if you use their software client update utility, instead of claimed support in the firmware of router..which on dyndns.orgs website they tell you they prefer you use their software client.

I would really prefer to use the router client, as it updates much faster, since it does not have to poll a website to get it's external IP (I believe the most frequent dyndns.org will let you poll their "what is my ip" site is every 5 min.

I find it works wonderfully well with my router.
My Netgear FRM114P worked FLAWLESS for the last 3 years with updating the DynDNS. Good support in the router > *

I just now moved to a WRT350N so it will be a while before I can tell you how well DD-WRT does. It updated a few times last night for me while testing/rebooting/etc.

Which software works? Its been awhile, but out of 5 client apps, every one of them failed eventually. One might last through a reboot, one might last a couple of months, but they all kick the can eventually.
