I have WS 19'' Westinghouse, should i buy the HDDVD player?
How good is the quality?

okokok so hold on.. the HD DVD player does not downscale to 720p? or 1080i?

I got a 32" samsung non 1080p monitor thinking "hey 720p looks pretty damn good, ill get a 1080p monitor in a few years when the prices relax"...

I was told by a friend that the 360 HD DVD player would downscale the movies to 720p, was he wrong?

yes, i know about 720p, i dont care, im just saying should i buy it?
How good is it?
Good quality?

It works fine, but I heard it was just as loud as the XBOX 360 with a game in it. If you want HD-DVD's you can't beat the price though.

I don't believe it is worth watching HD-DVDs on a 19" screen. The xbox HD-DVD drive is a good deal though.

HD DVD looks amazing even on a 720p monitor. Even if you aren't seeing the full resolution the format has to offer, you still will be seeing how it has zero artifacts compared to DVD which has MPEG2 artifacting all over the place.

If you don't have at least 1080i, there's no reason to upgrade.

Sure, you might see a minor difference but it's not worth the money.

Just get a up-converting dvd player (720p, 1080i) for that 19"....they can be found for under $50 if you find a sale somewhere.

Yes he is wrong. Over component you can watch HDDVD's @ 720p or 1080i on most TV's and if the TV supports 1080p over component, then you can watch HDDVD at 1080p.

To upscale Normal DVD's @1080p you have to use the 360 VGA adapter, due to some strange copyright and licensing agreements (IIRC)

I have an HD-A1 and I have to say it is totally worth it! Even on a small screen theres a huge difference between the colors from an hddvd to a dvd

right oh, anyone know where i can get comparison pics?
i know some sites but there down

To be honest, with all of the sales going on right now, i'd upgrade your HDTV before worrying about an HD-DVD player. I doubt that you are going to see that big of a difference, especially on a Westinghouse of that size. If you can't upgrade your TV, but have a dolby digital sound system, then it could very well be worth the upgrade due to the incredible audio quality of HD-DVD movies in general.

I, like many other people have a 720p tv, and even vs my upscaling DVD player (granted, a cheap one), the HD-DVD movies I have look so much better. (Just Batman Begins and V for Vendetta. For BB, check the train scene at the very end.)

its my monitor

i have an xfi and logic 5.1

sounds wonderful

i dont know why people say you cant connect, i can though.

That's just the beginning! Wait till you watch King Kong, Phantom of the Opera, and Polar Express!
