why are people still complaining about price of PS3?

Um...yeah, ok. I'm sure that's *exactly* how things will work out. Maybe Sony should hire you, I mean, you have this whole console business completely figured out.

I think they should their company would sky rocket... :D

And? You can still get them for $500... Far as distribution goes... Nothing is set in stone... If no one bought the $600 version and everyone bought $500 version then SONY has no choice to put out more $500 PS3... Most people don't need the $600 version... As all it does is have wireless and bigger hard drive for online content...

The $500 model costs them the most money...why in the world do you think they would offer it in high quantities?

Doesn't matter... It's up to you to make the choice not SONY!

...that doesn't make sense at all.

I don't choose how many Regulars and Premiums they ship. They do, and they're going to mostly ship $600 models because they lose the least money.

If nobody can find the $500 model, it's hard for them to make that choice. Getting a PS3 is already going to be a longshot since they're shipping 400K. Finding one of the 20% of that 400K is going to be pure luck.

When 80,000 of the 100,000 being shipped at launch will be the 600 dollar version, it's NOT up to you to get the one you want. That's the point. And if you think those ratios won't be similar for quite some time, you're crazy.

Actually you don't make sense at all... If you don't want to buy the $600 PS3 then you don't have to... Sony doesn't control me... Sony isn't forcing you to buy anything... I can wait and I can care less who gets a ps3 at launch for $600...

Why do I care if there is 80000 PS3 premium?

If you guys can't have a civil convo without getting all bent out of shape then don't, period.

Disagree all you want, but stop jabbing at each other like idiot 12 year olds.

We're running out of warnings here.

It isn't the price that bothers me.

It is the lack of appealing launch games, every press release Sony makes is more bad news, the apparent lack of difference between Blu-Ray and standard movies(and Sony saying Blu-Ray will be dead before it hits maturity), Sony installing rootkits, no performance difference between it and the 360, general low Sony quality, the mountain suck that is gaming on the PSP, innovating by inventing motion sensitive controls, X-Box Live, Achievements, Downloadable third party legacy games, constant lying and most games being cross platform, I agree with Offical Playstation Magazine, the 360 is the way to go.

Once the price drops and games worth playing come out, I'll look at the issue again.

my bad. I didnt know there was no such thing as a car that costs less than
$10,000. I could have sworn there was such a thing as a used car for $1000...well, live and learn i guess

And you missed the point entirely. Of course we are not talking about cars. Its an analogy. I will spell it out for you. Just because a person buys something does not mean by default that they have enough money to buy something of equal value again.

Now, careful, here comes some math. X-X = 0. X-X != X. Just because I can afford a nice computer does not mean that I can afford ANYTHING else I want. I had to SAVE up money over a period of time to afford it.
We are talking about a game console any average joe can buy with 1 paycheck... And what is $100 extra for a PS3 that you're going to spend 3-5 years of playing it on?
the average joe does not make an extra $600+ dollars of pure spending money paycheck, after all bills and debt. Shit, I dont even make $600 dollars total per paycheck!![/quote]
It's good that you built your computer for 5 years and happy for you it took you that long... I built mine in 1 day... Poof... I spent little over $1000 to build a computer... And I make less money than almost everyone here... I guarantee it...
Once again, not everybody has $1000+ lying around inbetween their couch coushins to spend at once. Are you really trying to convince me that you are make less money that everyone around here, yet you have $1000 to drop on a rig and another $600 to drop on a PS3 with out ever saving a penny? You just look in your bank account and WOW!! $1600!! Thats pretty impressive for someone on a grocery baggers salary...im not buying it, and it certainly is not the way *most* people are. Most people have to work and save up for the things they want.

Just a quick question:

U peeps keep mentioning the $500 PS3 and the last I heard (read) was that the cheaper model wouldn't be sold here in the States (at least at launch). Has this changed?

Nobody has said that it won't be sold here.

It's just going to be sold in extremely limited quantities. 20% (80K) of that 400K is going to be the $500 model. A percentage of that 20% is going to be sold online. So, let's assume that only 10K of the $500 models are sold online...that leaves only 70K $500 models for the entire country.

Crap, pardon my ignorance. I got meself cornfused over the price cut of the 20-gig model in Japan. I had my numbers mixed up.

Please don't mind me, carry on! :)

Again... We're not talking about something that isn't within grasp of an average joe... $500??? Sure you have to save up a little bit but you do realize this is 21st century we live in? Not 1980's when $500 was a lot of money...

the average joe does not make an extra $600+ dollars of pure spending money paycheck, after all bills and debt. Shit, I dont even make $600 dollars total per paycheck!!

I agree with that... But most average joe's spend money on beer and drugs to satisfy his bad habits... If you cut down for a month you can have yourself a nice gaming console that he/she can spend 3-5 years on the thing and have fun longer than boos or drugs...

I had originally bought a laptop for $850 after rebates and sold that off for $500??? I don't remember... I did some extra work and added the money towards my desktop system.... I swear to god I make less money than you... Scouts honor... :D I already said on this thread that I won't be buying any of the consoles yet... But I do have some money saved up after buying and selling online... Few $$ here and there... It adds up rather quickly... I don't know what I'm going to do... If I want to replace my processor or update my graphics card or buy a new console although I have no problems with my computer speed... I know that I just want to keep saving up money for something good or rainy day...

It's a lot easier to spend lots a little at a time than it is to spend a large amount in one go. Not the point though... average joe likes credit cards.

Wow, just wow.

For the record, I could care less how much it costs. If people want it, they'll buy it. In my experience people are generally pretty ignorant to the differences in consumer electronics/gaming.

Imagine

Kid whining to parent, I want games

Option 1. Cheap X360 - 300 + say 2 games - 400ish
Option 2. X360 Premium 400 + 2 games - 500ish
Option 3. PS3 Cheapy - 500 + 2 games - 600ish
Option 4. PS3 Xpensive - 600 + 2 games - 700ish

Now, HD movies/Wifi/Bluetooth aren't a factor here cause its parent/kids and they don't care.

As you move up the consumer chain, knowledge/budget grows and price differences of 200-400 mean less and status also means more, and trust me, status means alot with plenty of people (especially i imagine those on this forum who so vehemently defend sony and the price of the ps3).

Anyways, this sums up my feelings pretty much on the whole issue.

LOL parents hsould buy their kids a 24 case of beer..

Lol, new console, games, extra controllers, *Beer* and chips, and a few bucks left over. That's an awesome comparison :)

One of my favorite things when reading about how people feel about the price of the PS3 are things like this:

"The PS3 launch is gonna tank, no one is gonna buy them... I'm gonna buy 3~4 PS3's and sell them on eBay."

Nobody has ever said that it won't sell out on launch. The question is whether or not it will continue to sell once the hardcore fans have retrieved theirs.

There's probably only going to be 2-3 per store, tops. I could not imagine the ps3 not selling out.

I still can't see HOW you can launch a console with that limited number.

When people get over the sticker shock, they will end up with a PS3.

This thread has covered every possible aspect of the PS3 price at launch, (including the *Beer* option, :D ). It should be able to die in peace, now.

they launch at such a small number to create an artificial shortage.. so like that sony can hype things and claim

"OMFG the PS3 is sooo awesome, that they're selling out, and really hard to find"...

the ps3 would sell out at 1,000,000 launch the same as it will at 400,000. The reason for the actual amount at launch (400,000) is production difficulties, not marketing strategy. Sony wanted (and still wants) a million at launch time. Delays and shortages just make people like me say "fuckit, that 360's cheaper anyway and it's right there in front of me".

that's probably the more reasonable answer.. as opposed to what i posted earlier lol..

but i just wanted an excuse to put "OMFG" in a post.. :D

you have to think, I thought that the PS3 also didn't have a centered online gaming thing just like the PS2?

Holy cow! That's a hell of a deal. The premium console for less than $400 is a deal all by itself, but then throw in three current games, including two of the most popular games right now (Saint's Row and Dead Rising), and this is just smokin'.

Even at $500, PS3 is going to have a very hard time beating Xbox360 deals like that.

Well, the PS2 had about 500k units on launch day and they sold on eBay for well over 1000$. The Xbox360 had about 400k units on launch day and they sold on eBay for well over 1000$. The 360 even had around 130,000 of the launch units end up selling on eBay.

If there are that many people out there willing to spend that much on PS2 and Xbox360 there are certainly at least that many people willing to spend 1000$ or more on the PS3. Regardless of what the majority of people think about the price of the PS3, there are enough people to whom money is no object and they simply want the console ASAP. (For others, time is no object and we just want the easy 500$ profit from a night of eating junk food and joking with friends outside of BB or something)

PS : That is one hell of a deal on a 360, if anyone was thinking of buying one but waiting on a price drop (not happening) jump on that deal right now!

I think it's more like "Mom and Dad want little Timmy to be the cool kid on the block and they can be the cool parents." :)

In reality, the price of the PS3 doesn't bother me that much (drunken gamer talking now). But a larger portion of me wants gaming to be more accessable to everyone.
there are enough people to whom money is no object and they simply want the console ASAP
Dude, you are so right. It is our duty as a Capitalist to cater to these people with an over-inflated price, quenching both of our greeds. Alright, let's do this. I camped out 30 hours for the 360, 20 hours for the PS2 and 30 minutes for the DreamCast. I think I can do two days at BB. This time I am going to be ace on the supplies/gear. I will be within the top 3 people in line. (Still 50/50 on if I will do it or not..).

-----------------------------------------------------------------
PS - Wow. That IS a bad-ass deal on the 360. If I didn't have one, I'd have gotten that!!
