Burning mp3s on a CD but keeping mp3 format

Alright heres the deal. I want to burn a whole bunch of albums in mp3 format onto a CD while keeping the mp3 format. All programs I have encountered convert the mp3s so that it makes an audio CD. I want to burn about 40 mp3s to a disk, but when I put all of them into Nero or Deepburner, it automatically converts it to the format to make an audio cd and thus I can't burn the CD becuase its way over the "limit" proposed by the program.

I have also tried making an mp3 cd through nero with the mp3 function in Nero Express, I add all my tracks into the file window, they all come up and they all fit within the size of the cd, BUT I CAN'T SORT THEM!!! It keeps them in order. You know how in a normal window with a whole bunch of files you have name//location//size//last edited etc, if you hit one tab it sorts it by that criteria. Yeah well the same applies in Nero and I can't disable it. Therefore it sorts by track name, artist, size, kbs, etc. I even tried cut and pasting them into order but I can't becuase it automatically puts them back into order.

All I simply want to do is to burn an mp3 CD while keeping the mp3 format so that I can fit more onto one CD than you could with a "normal" audio CD. What programs or methods do I use to achieve this?

Burn your disc as a "data" disc instead of audio.

Yes but how do I sort them so when I put it into my car stereo it plays them in the order I want?

I believe whatever order you add them is the order they get burned in.

Don't most burning programs have the 'Burn MP3 CD' option? I know Musicmatch does.

Like I said Nero Express has the option, its just that you can't put them in the order you want.

Nope, in both Deepburn and Nero with a datadisk, it automatically sorts them into alphabetical or whatever tab is preselected.

Oh well, that sucks. You could rename the files and put a number in front of them.

e.g. put a 01 in front of what you want played first, a 09 for the ninth file to play, 25 for the 25th file to play and so on and so forth.

Just remember to put the "0" in front of single digit number. It'd suck to have 10-19 play before song number 2.

Meh, thats an option, but my car stereo displays artist names, titles, albums, etc. I would like to have the titles be the actual titles of songs, not 1, 2, 3, etc.

I guess it is simply not possible, which is plain stupid.

Does the car stereo not use ID3 data?

If it displays all that data, then it's taken from the ID3 tags. I don't think it can parse the file name for that information ;)

So just make sure the file names are correct and it should only affect the playing order (unless your stereo also displays file names).

itunes does exactly what you're asking. if you dont want to use it for anything else, just uninstall it afterwards. the work arounds to use nero seem like too much of a headache.

for itunes, just make a playlist of all the songs you want, change the format in which you want to burn the cd (mp3 in this case) and hit the burn button. itunes will make the CD/tracks in the order they're displayed in the playlist. quick and clean.

Okay I sent the fellow people over at Nero a email.

I also tried your trick to name the tracks 01 02 03 etc, it worked, but it does come up as 01.mp3 and 02.mp3 but it also displays the ID3 tags as well.

As for options, iTunes, as much as I hate ieverything, might be my solution. But since most of my favorite cds are already burnt the way I want em I think I can manage with how things are now since the work just fine. Maybe the Nero people may have a solution, we'll see.

Thanks for all your help though. :)

I'm gonna have to bite my words and say that iTunes is pretty useful.

And yes it did exactly what I wanted. :D
