What happens?ViriiK said:It seems that my direct download copy from Microsoft of build 5744 was corrupted. I've tried to install it 3 times now both through upgrade & full format does not work. I guess I got to download it again. ARGH. What a waste of a DVD.
ViriiK said:Is it me, or does Vista hate SATA hard drives? When I don't have the Vista DVD in the tray, it always shows me "Cannot find BOOTMGNR Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart." or something like that.
I just got a brand new smoking SATA 3.0 250GB hard drive from Newegg today so that's why I'm just kind of pissed off right now.
ryan_975 said:For those who don't have DVD burners and don't want to hassle with virtual drives can still install Vista RC2. Just open the .iso file in a program that can read UDF formats. (I used UltraISO;s free trial). Extract the "Sources" folder to wherever you want it (I put it in C:\) When it's done extracting open the new "Sources" folder (wherever it is that you put it) and run "setup.exe"
ThreeDee said:welp ..that was a pretty painless upgrade to 5744 from 5728 .. this latest build does seem a smidge snappier now ..
now to try Daemon Tools and see if it still works ..
**update**
nope ..Daemon Tools got borked ..not listed in control panel anymore and cant use its uninstaller so have to manually delete it and then hunt thru registry and find all instances of daemon tools and delete them .. now I'll redownload the DT and try and reinstall
needed to delete the sptd entry in registry too .. DT forums suggest uninstalling DT before updating and then reinstalling after update
..darn ..cant get it reinstalled so far

*curious*
The instructions would be altered, but in theory it works the same. However, XP is only on a CD, so there shouldn't be much of a reason to do it this way. Maybe on a really old laptop that doesn't have an optical drive.brucedeluxe169 said:will this work in XP too?

what i do is open the program, top left corner go to file then open find the iso file then open it so it apears in the white window, In the 1st just double click the file to mount and run then just go about installing vista like normalgemini8026 said:OC LEgend, how do you install when Alcohol (i use Daemon) is in Windows?! Can you elaborate on what procedure you follow, Im not sure how to install using alcohol (or daemon)

Im trying to install the 64 bit version. IS is possible to install it from within regular Windows, or will all this not work?!?
Very misleading info right there. WinXp versions of "low level" software may not work. I can't understand why people would expect them to. Anyway please note the following:kleox64 said:low level software will not work in Vista, remember Vista is a completly different OS.
for example
Anti-Virus (NOD, Symantec etc...)
Disc Tools (Partition Magic, Acronis, O&O etc...)
CD/DVD Burning (Nero, Roxio etc...)
Virtual Machines (Vmware etc..)
people will have to wait until AFTER Vista is released before any updates/new versions of these software are made. Anyone who atempts to run anything like this will most likely screw up thier Vista install.

all of the previous versions of vista for me have been 2.49GBbloo said:how large is the file you downloaded. last night when i finished downloading, the .iso image was only 400 something mb. i knew off the bat this was wrong since my vista 5600 build dvd was around 2.6 gigs. when i was downloading rc2 firefox said the file would be around 2.5 gigs, now that its finished downloading, the .iso image is only 2 gigs.
whats the deal? both downloads were finished as completed, but both of them dont seem to be "completele"

Ain't it wonderful? They made a big change in the way the OS is applied to the system. All of that component setup crap that Windows XP setup had to go through has been done prior to creating the installation image. It's pretty much like applying a Ghost image to your computer and then having windows set up your hardware afterwards. It took me about 19-22 minutes to install Vista 5744. I can't remember exactly.abudhu said:A Clean Install to Full Operating Desktop took 19 minutes on My computer. Pretty freaking fast.

Three computers, and all are using SATA drivers. All are various Intel chipsets. Are you trying to manually load the drivers, to see if that works?OC_LeGeND said:has anybody actully got this to install to a sata drive and it working without the disk error message?

I finished Condemned on build 5728 and it played very smooth on my rig at 1440x10something everything MAX. At 1900x1200 it was still smooth but you could feel a tad bit of lag in some areas but it wasn't like in XP where low frame rate resulted in chugging. Even in XP and 2003 games would get monster frame rates and still hitch while playing. Having dual core helps a bit too I guess. The OS was doing something in the backgroung which had the drives going crazy for a bit and it wasn't related to level loading or anything and the game kept playing smooth. F.E.A.R. played nicely as well as Tomb Raider legend, Flatout2 and Source engine based games. This is all with the ATI drivers built into Vista. The ATI Catalyst drivers are shit and bring back the good ol hitching AND corrupted textures and overall crappy performance. I wonder how it is that MS can get the drivers right and ATI can't. In any event I have no complaints in regards to gaming except for the lack of Open GL but there is enough DirectX content out there to keep me from thinking about it too much if at all.gurgle said:how is gaming performance?
abudhu said:Also, after closing CS2 and having windows load back up Aero, nothing on my second monitor would render correctly. Any window I dragged over to that side would corrupt and flicker like mad at me.
