Camcorder... Idiotic question

I've never messed with a camcorder but I can't figure out how to get info off the tape and onto my Mac...

I bought a Panasonic PV-GS180 and can't get info from the tape onto the Mac... It's USB only. I don't know if that matters.

Any help in the matter would be appreciated. The instruction manual is useless and I'm finding nothing through Google.
 
I'm not a Mac user, but I have done plenty of work with digital video. The widespread standard way to get DV onto a computer is through firewire; it was designed with video transfer in mind. The method by which video streams over USB isn't standardized; the implementation your camcorder uses is probably not understood by the software you're using.

I looked up the specs on the PV-GS180, and it's supposed to have a firewire port. If it does (who'd make a DV camcorder that didn't have firewire?), I'd recommend buying the appropriate firewire cable, and using that to dump the video instead.

LOL I'm such a newbie when it comes to camcorders...

Is there such a thing as a DV to firewire cable? I don't see a FW port anywhere on this thing.
 
Forget it, I figured it out.

Pardon me while I go kick myself in the nuts for being a moron.
 
I thought it was pretty awsome when I realized I could just plug my camcorder into the Mac and voila it has control of it. Finally gave me a reason to use the camcorder, since before I just had tapes sitting around and that was all I could do.

Love it!
