so just wondering how you all keep your computer components in new-like condition without all that dust the case sucks in.

with the window mod, we like to look at the nice clean shiny parts. cant just go in there and take a air can, because it shoots out condensation yea?

what methods do you guys all use?

Compressed air can, dont flip it upside down or sideways. Although some of us never keep stuff long enough to get dusty :p

you can get some filters for your intake fans. if you can, keep your computer on top of the desk rather than near the floor. and yea, the only time canned air shoots out condensation is when you tilt to the side or upside down.

i do keep the computer on top of the desk next to the lcd display :)
wont the filters restrict the fan's maximum intake capabilities?

i hold the can pretty straight, but i still see like "frost" on parts for a few seconds, and its ice cold to the touch.

I usually dismantle everything, wash the case, compressed air on the inside of the PSU, rag and compressed air for the fans, compressed air for the heatsinks, etc. Then throw it all back together.

I do this every month so nothing gets very dusty.

I think you may be holding the can a little too close to whatever you're spraying....

leafblower all the way

LMAO, I thought using the vacumm was crazy. I take everything out evry couple months and vaccum all fans and passive heastisnk. Ive never really found a local source on the compressed air in a can.

i just use a normal air compressor with a blow gun attachment.. turn the psi down a bit and you have a huge never end can of air :)

I usually take it out in the back yard and wash it, also with the dog. So im killing two birds with one stone.

:p

I found a little general purpose air pump that's about the size of a PSU, it puts out like 30psi ish (a guess really, but it's not enough to hurt anything and plenty to clean it out). Simply attach a handle and a short length of hose and you're good to go. I got mine at a garage sale, but I'm sure home depot or the like would have something similar.

9.6v Black and Decker dust buster ftw.

No, seriously, you'd only need about 4.2v to suck dust... This thing is TURBOCHARGED.

I modded the end with an empty, bent, toilet paper rol. It's long and thin :) So very easy to get into hard to suck places ( )

If your case is positively pressurized (more intake than exhaust), then you only have to worry about dust entering via your intake fans. Put filters on those, and you'll be set. Keeping the computer off the floor helps more than anything else.

The best way to keep them really clean is to use the liquid cleaner you can buy. The stuff I use is gaurenteed to not leave a residue. The stuff is safe for PCBs in most cases have known some that dont work well. Whats really nice is it removes everything including oxidation. I try to use canned air much more often though but in arizona even with everything filtered I have to clean mine out way to often for my tastes.

What is the liquid cleaner called and where would you buy it from? I'm wondering what works best with cleaning my Lian-Li V1000 case cause it get fingerprints on the panels and then dust inside and with aluminum it leaves behind a residue and stuff at times even if i use 91% Isopropyl.

I bring my case over to my shop to use the air compressor on it.
