Hi all,

Quick question, I will be testing a Core2 Duo setup early next week and I was wondering if my MSI 7950GX2 will run on the MSI intel 975X based motherboard. It lists crossfire compatibility... which would not help me.

Are any of you running Core2 Duo's on Intel 975X boards with 7950's?

Thanks in advance.

I have already checked that list...

There are no Core2 Duo boards listed. That seems odd.

So same question, is anybody here on the forums running a 7950GX2 on a Core2 Duo board?

I have heard a ton of people say the 7950 GX2 runs fine on the Gigabyte DS3 mobo. I'm fixing to move to "Conroeville" myself and already have a 7950 GX2 and was looking at the DS3 mobo.

I will in aprox. 12-15 hours from now :) But the answer is: YES. Because this is a SINGLE card as Nvidia points out all the time The "SLI" is done only on the driver side and the card itself, so the chipset doesn't matter, as long as you have a PCIe slot. If you read the BFG 7950X2 review here on [H], you will find that they even tried it on a board with ATI chipset and it worked :)

Yup - the P5B Deluxe had a new BIOS released 2 weeks ago that'll support it just fine.

Right now - I still think that is THE board to get for Conroe if you don't mind paying for it.

Thanks for all the replies, I am currently installing as we speak (writing this on my laptop) I am using the MSI 975X Platinum board and I found a list of the BIOS updates and ver. 1.2 added support for the 9750X2.

So I should be golden.

I will say, however, that this board does seem to have its quirks. I manually adjusted the RAM timings for my Corsair XMS2 2048-6400c4 to 4,4,4,12 @ 2.1 volts (per Corsair and what I had it set at on my AM2 setup) and the board went into this strange reeboot cycle, stayed on for 5 seconds, shut off and restarted, 5 seconds, restart... had to clear the CMOS to get it going again.

Very touchy...
