dead A8N32-SLI?

sorry for the long story, but by detailing everything i hope i can get some help and/or advice.

so last night i was doing some cable management (in my build 2.0 - see sig below for system specs), and in the process unplugged everything. i rerouted the cables, and plugged everything back in. turned the PSU on and the green light on the A8N32 came on when i switched on the PSU (silverstone zeus 650w). but when i tried to turn the rig on, nothing happened (no spinning fans, no HDD activity, nada).

i thought that i had missed something when i plugged everything back in, so i repeated the process: took everything out, plugged everything back in. turned on the PSU, and the little green light lit up again. but when i pressed the power button, nothing happened.

thinking that my PSU was bad, so i swapped it into my older rig to see if it would power that up. well, it powered up fine. i even swapped HDDs and my DVD burner to see if either or was the culprit, but they were fine.

seeing as to how everything else seemed fine, i swapped the silverstone back into my build 2.0, but this time powering up the A8N32, one HDD, a DVD burner, and the 7800 GTX only (no second HDD, no case fans). turned on the PSU, and the little green light on the A8N32 lit up again. but when i press the power button, nothing would happen. i even tried powering up the mobo and the 7800 GTX by itself, but i still get the same result: green light, but nothing powers up.

thing is, i've been having intermitten issues getting past the BIOS screen and into windows for the last two weeks. but after a few restarts, everything seems fine. i thought this might be a heat-related issue, or simply a lack of airflow (thus prompting the cable management), but my older rig hasn't crapped out due to the weather.

so two questions:
1. could it be the mobo that died?
2. how's the ASUS RMA process?

did you inadvertantly unplug your power button leads to the mobo? ..maybe try using a tip of a screw driver or other metallic object and manual short the pins to power up your mobo in the chance that maybe you messed up your power button in your cable clean up

..if that dont work , try reseating your memory/vidcard/cpu ..

does your mobo take two power connectors to it? ..or just the the one big one?

..there is also the unfortunate chance that you might have zapped your mobo with a static charge if you werent wearing a static strap or didnt grab something metallic (chair, door knob) prior to digging into your case at least.

everything appears to be plugged in correctly, but i have yet to rule out the power button as a culprit. i think i might take the mobo out and try the pen tip trick.

i don't believe the CPU/RAM/graphics card seating would have that big of an issue, since this rig was built back in march. i did do some stress-testing and benchmarking, so any seating issues should have shown up then. i might take a hard look at it though.

mobo takes two plugs: a 24-pin ATX and a 4-pin auxilliary. again, i tried out the silverstone PSU on my old rig, and it fired up fine.

i don't know if i might have zapped my mobo w/ static electricity, but my room isn't carpeted, and i had contact w/ the case itself (steel) before i went digging inside. can't rule that out yet either.

I've done similar stuff of cable straightening up and then comp wont boot thing ..it was always something simple in my cases where I bumped this or that or didnt plug something back in correctly or what have you ...hopefully its a simple ( maybe as of yet not obvious) fix for yuh and no actual hardware damage has taken place .. :(

i've tried a number of combinations in an attempt to fire up my board, but nothing happens still. it looks like i will have to RMA this. anyone tried the ASUS RMA? any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

green light on ur mobo means it is receiving power from ur psu. it's in the a8n32 manual- what the green light means.

reset all system panel connector- the pwr switch, reset swtch, hdd light, etc...maybe some of it was misplaced.

An unseated video card on this board will not prevent it from powering on...it will give you a beep code on the bios screen. It sounds like the board might've bit the dust.

I have the same board and I had to reformat one of my drives after I tried to do some case painting. Strange, but couldn't find any other way to fix the problem.

There is a switch on the PSU with a circle and a line on it. Flip it and you are good to go.

Same thing happened to me, but I flipped the switch!

edit: don't flip the voltage switch, just the close switch.

Things to do:
1)Get the mobo out of the case - Clear the bios (using ClearCmos jumper)
2)Set up basics only - Ram,CPU, VGA,PSU
3)Try powering up with minimal stuff on it (ie one stick of ram etc.)
4)Try to substitute any of the basic components (Ram, CPU, GPU, PSU)
Still no go?
Check same components on other mobo -all is well?
If you'v e ended up here, all you an do is RMA the board.
From my experience with Asus boards, this one sounds done.
If this is true I'm sorry, I wish you a speedy RMA.

i've tried almost every conceivable combination of components in an attempt to power up my board, but the same thing still happens: little green light turns on, but nothing happens when i switch the power on.

i've come to the conclusion that the board has crapped out. :(

i'll be sending the board out for RMA today. oddly enough, i'll be out of the country while the board is out for RMA, so the wait won't be too bad.

thanks for all the help; i'll try to keep everyone updated.
