Well, I am in need of a new display for my secondary gaming rig and I have come to the conclusion of, why not get a new display for myself and bump my current display (NEC FE922) to the secondary rig?

So the search for a new display has begun, I have done quite a bit of looking around and have kept my eye on LCD's advancements over the years. I (as everybody else) have heard many great stories and many awful stories in regards to the Dell WFP LCD line-up. Partly because of this and also because almost every gamer and their brother owns a Dell LCD :p. I would like to go with an LCD solution from a different manufacturer and from what I have read Viewsonic's VX2025WM looks like a pretty good bet, and however not cheap $340 doesn't seem to be to ridiculous. I am probably going to order this on Thurs. (payday :D )

I guess I am just wonder what the [H]'rs thought of game play on this particular LCD.

Additional Info:
I will be using this display with a 7900gt, and will primarily be using it for fps gaming and occasional movie watching.

Thanks for tolerating yet another “should I buy this or this”, “ please decide for me thread” :p, but jumping into new technology can be a bit intimidating ;).

I love mine end of story, games look great Darks look really nice in Quake 4. Wouldnt trade this thing for anything. Its that awesome

Same here. :D

I have a ViewSonic VX922 with 2 ms response time 19" 4:3 and i love it but i should have went widescreen so im probably going to get this monitor.

Will a 7900GT support it well enough? I play BF2 mostly and right now I do 1280 X 1024 4x AA and everything on ultra high (yes there is a setting in the file that controls the actual graphics setting, instead of putting them on 3 for high you input 4 lol)

I know bf2 doesnt support widescreen gaming but you think I could do something comparable now? Also my 7900gt is voltmodded and is oc'ed from 450/1320 reference. I have evga 7900gt CO which came "stock" @ 500/1500. I have it now @ 665-670/1800-1850 depending, which gives it a big advantage over "stock" 7900gt's, it is higher than a stock 7900gtx only that it isnt 512 and faster memory :/

I plan on upgrading graphics once dx10 hits the market, maybe the cpu/ram etc.. but definately graphics :)

The only way I'd give up my VX922 for a widescreen is if it was a fast 24" or bigger. You lose soime height going to a 20" WS from a std. 19". I didn't want to do that.

I just wish I could see a 2407 in action to see if it's fast enough for my tastes.

yah my housemate has a 24" dell and its nice but it is also a lot of money..the 19" vx922 and 20.1" one are comparable in price. Yes you lose some height, wonder how much? Well the height of vx922 w/o stand is 14.6" and height of vx2025 w/o stand is 13.4" so you lose 1.2" inches but width you gain 2 inches. If i had $$ i would get 24" :D

Mine looks wonderful, and I play alot of games on mine. BF1942, Fear, HL2 Deathmatch, Oblivion, Prey, Max Payne. Othen then the slight diagnal shadow bleeding in the corners which is a trait of the panel and slight ghosting, its an awesome LCD.

Check out my post I did a couple days ago. I talk about the VX2025wm vs the Gateway. I am also a gamer so I have lots of pics of games :) as well.
I read your comparison :p, and that's part of what pushed me in the direction of this LCD.

And as iRoNeTiK asked is a single 7900gt going to be able to properly push this screen?

The other question I had was in regards to the DVI connection having issues, any thoughts/opinions on that?

Thanks again, all of your input is very much appreciated :).

As far as I can tell, absolutely no ghosting on FEAR and CSS. Saving up some money for dual monitor setup.

Well I just ordered it, should be on it's way from TN either today or tomorrow, might even be here by Fri :D. I'll post some info/thoughts on it when it shows up.

nice man! This is the exact LCD I've been looking at for some months now...I want a good gaming LCD with reasonable price/performance and this seems to be the sweet spot right now on the market. Viewsonic doesn't seem to fail to impress in this widescreen LCDs performance.

lets see new egg has it $329.99 + 13$ shipping...zipzoomfly has it $339.95 free shipping. I might be best to get it from fly unless there is a better deal on the net.

Update - I cancelled the order. After seeing QUITE a few people having the same DVI prob I thought about it and if I am going to spend $340 on a new screen it sure as hell better work, and seeing that people as close as July 14th are receiving dud screens I will look elsewhere. I hate it when you decide on something and dig a little deeper and find stuff like this. ------v

Many many people have gotten it to work fine. I bought mine at a B&M store because here in Canada we are limited to choices for online retailers and I didn't wanna order from NCIX and spend 50 bucks on shipping. I don't know why you cancled your order on other peoples mistakes and misfortune with their LCD's. The VX2025WM is a great LCD and go make your order now for another one. I doubt you will have any problems. Go order now!

I have the 7900GT CO (Clocked at 550 instead of 500) from eVGA. It runs games fine. the frames can drop to the 30s in big gun fights (at 1680x1050), but it's nothing that's going to kill you. At first I thought I needed to upgrade to the 7900GTX or 7950, but I decided not to. HL2, BF2, etc... all run smooth. I will wait for the next big game that comes out before I decided to push for a new card.

When doing the stress test for HL2: Lost Coast, with max detail and HDR on, It got an avg. score of 83fps.

People rarely post when they are satisfied with a product, be it on forums or review websites. On the other hand, people DO post when they have a problem, and they usually make a whole lot of noise about it.

I think the VX2025WM excels, especially if you're a big gamer. :)

I've had mine for over a month now and haven't had a single reason to complain other than I wish I had a second 7900GT so I could run SLI on this badboy.

If you are going to buy the monitor and are in California and want no tax and only 18 dollar shipping. Zipzoomfly has it with free shipping but 28 dollars tax if your in california so Compuplus is a better buy. I never bought from them before but they have positive ratings and a lot of them according to pricegrabber.

ALSO through July 31st there is a 50 dollar mail in rebate. http://images.pricegrabber.com/rebates/60304.pdf

Says all retellers excluding....

I called viewsonic to make sure it was ALL and the representative said yes to all hehe. So after mail in rebate the monitor will be like 308 dollars. :)

That rebate is only if you buy a notebook or desktop PC along with the monitor.

LOL ur right it is w00t..its funny i read all the fine print these days but skip some of the big print -_-

well if u buy from datavision and a couple others u get 50 dollar rebate but looks like data will charge 349.99 and not 339.99 so 10 bucks more but 50 dollar rebate..might be worth it to check it out because according to pricegrabber it will be 380 then minus 50 so be 330 :D just go to pricegrabber.com and type in viewsonic

i was on the fence about this panel as weel i am a hardcore gamers and i got rid of my dell 2005 a while back because i couldn't stand the ghosting. i just recently got the samsung 204b and i must say this panel is beast. it does have some slight bleeding going on on the bottom portion of the screen, truth be told it is only visible when i am booting up. otherwise this panel is amazing, it's super fast with a 5ms response time, vibrant colors and it even has a movable stand. you can get 1 online for around $350 if you look around.
