Is Conroe C1 really in the works?

Has anyone heard anything about a C1 stepping for Conroe? I was on XS and someone mentioned it. I know some people don't like XS that much and stuff, but i was wondering if it was indeed in the works or if it was false information.

Since Conroe isn't even out yet, steppings don't make a bit of difference. The only 'stepping' that means anything right now is the first one that someone can actually buy.

Why would anyone not like XS?

LOL... must refrain from commenting.... must hold back.....

:D

As for a C1 stepping.... sure they will step it again, they always do. Everything for launch I have seen says B2 though. I know Woodcrest is launching at B2, and have heard that Conroe and Merom are the same. Who really knows though.

I've seen the new conroe in action when I was visiting a friend at Intel, and all I can say is that those cpus are freaking amazing...they are so fast and can multitask extremely well! I cant wait till it comes out on the market.

Have you overclocked that Conroe yet?

Not really... I tried getting it up to 1333fsb, but got annoyed at having to change the jumper everytime it didn't like the setting and then quit. :D The "thrill" of overclocking wore off real quick. :D

That's a pretty big jump to 3.67GHz/1333 on I assume stock cooling and voltage. I'll be happy with 2.4GHz/1066 -> 3GHz/1333. :D

someone enlight me on the greatness that is C1 stepping please?
I'm a little confused as well. A google search turned up that stepping refers to the version of the cpu as far as bug fixes and things that might be changed on the cpu. I'm not seeing how this changes anything in terms of performance or OC. It just seems like an update. Also, it said something about starting at A0. Why would conroe be up to c1 already? Is this rating for the life of the intel processors or am I missing something entirely?

It would start at A0, but there are internal revisions to fix issues and tweak performance that never get shipped except maybe as engineering samples, which is why Poncho mentioned that the shipping version of Conroe would be B1 (I think that's what he said, at least.

New steppings can lead to performance increases, though, as processor layout and manufacturing process are further optimized.

Correct... as the validation process happens bugs come up and sometimes it takes new steppings to fix. For example my processor at home is a B0 stepping, which means that there are going to be bugs in that processor that B1 and B2 steppings fixed. Now.... that's not to say that earlier steppings are crap processors.... most of the time the "bugs" are things that you will never even notice or would need x, y, and z to happen before you would see an issue.

Oh.. and they are launching Woodcrest at B2 for sure, and as it stands right now.... Conroe as well.

True, true. I like XS though, lots of info to glean over there. Just have to weed out the irrelevant/incoherent stuff like any other site, but I find it less so over there.

C1 is not a stepping, it's a revision. Stepping is like QLLR. So far the OC of Conroes have increased from A0 -> B1, so naturally, people might expect the same thing for B1 -> C1. :D

You're wrong... c0-c1 is a stepping, just as B2-C0 is.

Typical synical negative comment from an AMD supporter.

haha I eagerly look forward to the Z99 stepping Conroes that clock to 5ghz on no cooling at all (no heatsink, IHS popped off)... :p

seriously... Its gonna be a looong time until I can afford a desktop again, so I'm really excited thinking abt how awesome the NGMA cpus will be in a year or so (when I buy)

And please demonstrate where anything I said is wrong. It is a fact that follow on steppings are meaningless until the initial preoduction stepping is available for purchase. You're far too thin skinned if you feel that this is "!!!!!!" talk. It is a fact of life, deal with it. :D

*edit* and that would be "cynical", if you're going to whine, at least do so correctly :p *

Conroe ES are a dime a dozen, they are available, but at a higher price.

Are you retarded?
Did that post make sense to anyone else?

LOL, you know you hit a nerve when the !!!!!!s can't find any other reason to fault you but your typo.

Seriously though guys, I've been Intel only since I had some bad luck with K6-2's and early Athlon's back in the day. Anxiously awaiting Conroe, but he only spouts the truth. The steppings are meaningless until they actually ship the first one.

You should have been there last year. It was 8 folks and defending Intel against about 60 Hardcore AMD worshippers who couldn't or didn't know how to stay on the AMD side of the forum. They have gotten better and are working on getting better.

To be fair, I was razzing the other guy on a typo :p so getting some back for my own typo is fine. :D

The sale of ES chips is actually a crime. ES CPUs are the property of Intel, even when passed out to reviewers. It is not their property to sell.

Oh, and using the term "A dime a dozen" and "at a higher price" in the same sentence, refering to the same item, is known as an oxymoron. :D :D
