How to put videos on your new iPod

hey guys i converted an episode of southpark that i had for my ipod using videora but the sound is 3 or 4 seconds behind the video anyone know why?

I used two programs to make the iPod compatible files. One is DVD Decryptor which is a great program, I got it here: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html. I was looking on videora's website and found it there for some reason. I then used a program called Free iPod Video Converter. you can get it at http://www.jodix.com. this is a great, free converter that has very good video and audio. also, it will convert almost anything. the process I used was make an IFO in dvd decryptor, and then convert it in free ipod video converter. a good guide is at the same link as above at Videora.com. these are fast too, I converted the Boondock Saints to mpeg4 while writing this post.

Two DIVX-ripped AVI videos I converted with Videora stutter a bit on my 60GB, and then they'll play without sound. If I FFWD a bit, it will be ok, then stutter and lose sound again.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'll re-rip the DVDs soon enough to try it again, but probably not until next week.

you do this recently? what version is your ipod?

this happened w/ iPod version 1.0. majority of the errors, if not all, were fixed by 1.1. at least for me.

otherwise Videora iPod Converter v.92 has a dedicated 'fix ipod issue' scenerio. its not a public release, but i can get you a copy if you need it.

Yeah, just in the past few days. Mine is a 5g (60GB), but how do I check the firmware version? Before I saw your reply, I seached around a bit more...

I found a pretty intuitive iPod guide here, and on that page was this suggestion:

one thing i may be able to help with, many people have complained of their videos freezing after so long, and then playing with no sound, i have had this problem and is in fatc the reason i found this guide (which is awesome by the way). I have a 60gig ipod, and i updated it with the 1.1 software from itunes, all the people i know who have 30 gig ipods have never complained of this problem, and i have never heard of any yet. Once i restored my ipod to factory settings with the 1.0 software, the videos played fine and i had no problems whatsoever, it just seems to be a case of the update not working to well with 60gig ipods
This page on ipodhacks.com shows how to downgrade from 1.1 to 1.0.

This post on this page shows the workaround quoted below, which worked for me:

Before the video freezes, pause the video in the Ipod, slide the hold button to hold, wait some seconds, slide it back again. Start the video again, and slide the button over to hold again. Now the video wont freeze

But if my firmware is only 1.0, I'd very much like to upgrade to 1.1 and see if that provides a permanent solution that doesn't require a workaround.

Thanks for responding!

i didnt realize 5Gs were actually up to 1.1.1. IDR, but i think that it mightve been that last .1 that fixed the issue. no idea.

eithery way, every video that ive ever stuck onto my iPod, whether it be a 4sec clip to a full movie, since one of the last two updates fixed my issue and im happy.

also, that little 'fix' where you pause, scroll back, scroll forward, and play again has to be done every 30 secs, which was annoying when tryin to watch Anchorman on my friends iPod.

lemme know if the update helps you!

well, I didn't have to scroll, just pause, hold, unhold, unpause, and hold again. watched Family Guy and Fight Club with no issues.

But nonetheless, I'll try the update and report back! Thanks!

Good to go! Thanks a lot for the info

ok i got an ipod video for xmas and i have no idea which converter is the best, so far i cant find any that work for me, i use a windows pc and i cant seem to work any of the converters

Videora iPod Converter's the best. if thats one that didnt work for you let me know, ill help you out.

ya i need help it wont seem to work i convert it and all that works on my ipod is the audio

After getting my iPod video this weekend I have to say the videos on it look amazing. Even the one that I've converted with iSquint look super good.

I have used Videora, and it seems nice and all, but is it just me or does it not support multithreading? I know the app had 10 threads (give or take), but I think only one of them is actually used for encoding, because one of my cores is sitting pretty much idle...it seems a waste.

Does videora work with subtitles?
if it indeed can't, as I'm lead to believe by using it, which free program does?

Although I do not doubt that this is good software, is there anyone else that would like to chime in with their recommendations? (I just got my 30 giger and was wondering what the best app for conversions was)

where is the video tab under videora

Where is the Video Tab Under Videora? Is it supposed to be under the about tab or what?

Old topic...but I rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter and use Nero Recode 2 (Part of Nero 7) to get mp4. It's got a setting just for iPod videos.

I have used 2 different programs to make this work, and both work great.

1. DVD Decryptor w/ Videora Ipod Convertor
2. Elaborate Bytes (same company who makes CloneCD) DVD Conversion

I would say for ease of use, use number 2. It will take a DVD and convert it into pretty much any mobile format you want. PSP, Ipod, Smartphone etc. It works slick but it costs $39.99 I believe. You may be able to find it if you search around the web. That would VERY highly be my suggestion as far as converting Ipod videos goes.

Just got the 80 gigger. Any advice on uploading video. This will be the first time I have ever ripped a dvd. I see above there are different programs to do the word with and it has to be an MP4. Few questions:

What is the best resolution to use for watching on the iPod?

If I hope to watch it on another display (tv, projecter ect.) should I use a different resolution?

Yeah i have to say that videora is preety good for something that you dont have to pay for

Videora for converting other formats, Handbrake for ripping/encoding in one step. Handbrake is easily the best OSX application I've found so far, it's even easier than DVD Decrypter & AGK that I used to use.

you can also use DVDFabDecrypter to rip your dvd into an ipod format. then use your choice program to move it onto your iPod

Uhmmm... no it doesn't. When you click that button to do an iPod conversion, you get the obligatory spammed "Buy DVDFab Platinum 3" crap. Would have been nice, but, no go.

sorry to bring this thread back up, but im trying to put movies on my ipod. i dled videora and converted 2 movies. i tryed to put them on my ipod by dragging them from the videora video file to the movies section in itunes and they dont show up. does it depend how long the movies are because i am able to put 4-5 minute clips and even a 45 minute clip on my ipod after converting them, the longer movies just arent working, is there anything i can do?

I knew it was an option, but I never used it. Sorry to hear they are retarded like that.

I put on a few movies onto my ipod. You dragged the movies onto the video folder up top right? Not creating a playlist? Because you do not want to create a playlist for it, it won't work. You dragged the convered file made by Videora into the video folder right? Otherwise, disconnect your ipod, drag the movies in there, then connect your ipod again. That should work.

is the video folder and movies folder the same thing in itunes? because i selected movies then i dragged the file from my videora videos file to the gray section on the right and the movies still wont show up. its kinda pissing me off

Yes, they are the same thing. I've done it once or twice with my iPod G5 60GB. Does iTunes say it sync'ed and everything?

i dont think that it being sync'ed or not is the problem. some videos i can drag and drop in itunes and some i cant. and it seems to be the longer movies i cannot drop in itunes. is there a limit to the length or size the video file can be?

I'll have to try with a longer video (plus that system has corrupted on me, so I need to reinstall Winblow today). I'll let you know once I have everything up and running.

i think that i picked 2 movies that cant be put on my ipod for some reason, cause i tried a different movie and it did work so maybe its just the two movies dont work

lol, That is interesting. Try some other movies if you have some. Keep us posted.

im also having a problem getting videos onto my ipod. i wanted to put that youtube video, lazy sunday, on it and i downloaded from another program. i downloaded videora and transcodede the video. then when i went to drag to my itunes, it said the video wasnt copied because it cant be played on this ipod :( is the format wrong? its a .mp4. if thats the case, how do i change it??

I read that Toast 8 Titanium for OS X has the ability to encode videos of various formats for iPod but I don't see it.

Anyone want to hold my hand through it?

Ok, I know this is off subject, but I could not find a better place to ask it, does anyone know if this free software will work for the Zune? and if not, does anyone know what will work the best for the Zune?

Thanks
