So what are the FPS and RTS A list games coming out of the 12-18 month timeframe? Approx release dates? Heres the ones I know of, feel free (and please do) to add/correct to this list.

RTS:
Supreme Commander (Q1-'07) (DX9)

FPS
Crysis (sp?) (Q4 '06) (DX9/DX10 enabled)
ET: Quake Wars (Q? '07) (DX9/DX10?)
UT2k7 (Q? '07) (DX9/DX10?)
BF2142 (Q? '07?) (DX9/DX10?)

Huxley (MMOFPS)
Rome: Total War Alexander
Medieval II: Total War
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Half-Life 2 episodes 2 and 3
Shadowrun
BioShock
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Prey

Hellgate: London (07)
Spore (07)
Neverwinter Nights 2 (Fall 06)
Gothic III (Fall-Winter 06)
Dark Crusaders of Might and Magic (Summer 06)
Middle Earth Online (Winter 06?)
Gears of War (07)
Fallout 3 (07)

I think the 2006-07 period will, when it's all said and done, rival the 98-99 span for quality games. So much good stuff out already this year and still to come over the next year and a half.

I believe UT 2007 and BF2142 are both coming out this year Q4, will try and find links to that and edit this shortly.

Not sure where you put this, cuz Will Wright makes unconventional games, but I'm looking forward to:

SPORE!! :D

It's kinda a RTS....

hm. Im really wondering if all of those are true A-list type games though. Releases equivilant to like Q4, D3, HL2, those type of huge fanbase games.

Quake Wars, UT07 and BF2142 aren't "A-list" games? lol

Hellgate:London is going to sell millions. 3d Diablo (and being made by the people who made Diablo, no less) set in demon-infested london, with loot and skills (and mouse clicking) galore? Yes please!

Spore is going to sell more copies than UT2k7, guaranteed.

Middle Earth Online is easily a AAA title. Whether it delivers or not remains to be seen, but it has as much anticipation as SW:G did, at least, with a similar fanbase.

Gothic III looks to be as great a game as Oblivion which, if I recall, sold a few copies.

Neverwinter Nights solds millions of copies, dont' see why NWN 2 will do any less.

Dark Crusaders of Might and Magic is a bit of a sleeper, but the buzz has been growing steadily over the last few months. Look up discussions for any news articles on shacknews about this game -- people are very hyped up for it.

Gears of War is going to be a monster on console and PC.

Fallout 3 not a AAA title? Please.

I meant the ones other people were suggesting...

So when you said "all" you meant "some". Gotcha. :p

I would also add Huxley, Crysis and Supreme Commander onto that "A-list". I'm probably forgetting a few.

Quake Wars and BF2142 are supposed to be released at the end of this year, but my money is on BF2142 being pushed back (and sucking).

The first part of 2007 will be a fun time, but 2006 is looking pretty lacking as far as PC games are concerned.

Just with what's been released SO FAR this year -- Oblivion, Red Orchestra, Battle for Middle Earth 2, GalCiv2, Civ4, GRAW, Rise of Legends, AoE3 (for those that liked it), Heroes of Might and Magic 5 -- it's been an above-average year. Figure in Gothic III, NWN2, Prey, WoW expansion, and HL2 Episode 1 for sure this year, and possibly Supreme Commander and Crysis, and you have a phenomenal year by anyone's standards, though if Crysis slips it will be admittedly lacking in the FPS department.

It won't be pushed back. From EA's point of view, why push it back if it's not finished? Just release it in all its buggy glory and patch it at your leisure. The fans will buy it, anyway...

the funny thing is that the only games that appeal to me from that list are SupCom and Crysis (although I figured out why this deserves to be called good yet), and supcom is scheduled for next year, while crysis wont be revealed in its full glory until DX10/Vista/DX10 hardware, also next year.

/me doesn't deserve/need the 7800GT he has; which is why its going away until DX10 stuff comes out. Ima build SFF/lan gaming rig, built just for high res SupCom, with crysis and quakewars for lanning.

Anyone know when that one new game by the Desert Combat team is coming out? It's supposed to be a war game with elements of BF but different and still in a modern setting. Forgot what it's called.

My MUST BUY list for 2006 only

Battlefield 2142
Medival II Total War
Storm of War: Battle of Britain
Neverwinter Nights 2
Bioshock

The 'maybe' catagory
Quake Wars
Gothic III

2007 -under consideration
Supreme Commander
Hellgate London

Every single DICE game, expansion, or patch ever made has been pushed back, count on it.
They might still get it in for the holiday season.

Well, Civ4 came out in 2005 and with the exception of Oblivion (which I don't want to run on my old computer) and Galciv2 (which I enjoyed), I could care less about the others. They are all sequels or rehashes of tired (imo) gameplay experiences.

Compared with the stuff shown at E3 (Crysis, SupCom, Bioshock, Mass effect, Spore, etc) , that list is downright boring. Maybe I just expect to much from the PC games industry.

Well maybe we should. Look at all the fun times we've had since the mid-90s. I think the games coming out in the next 12 months will be fun. We just need to look at each one objectively and not judge the developer/publisher without judging the content. :)

Well, I'm excited for Hellgate London. That was going to be my only other purchase this year. might have to see what all the fuss with Spore is about.

Oh, and Gothic 3 does look good

"fun" for me is replayability. I bought Q4 and doom 3, never bothered to finish either (or even get very far). Doom 3 had the same "enter maze, enter room, monsters spawn behind you, kill monsters, move to next room" feel throughout the entire section I played. Q4 I should finish, I didn't get very far, and the graphics at least are nice.

OTOH, Im still playing TA, and enjoying it. So that tells you where my interest lies. RPGs should be right up my alley but the dungeon crawl has never interested me either.

I wish OSI would open a UO server from the T2A days, itd be better populated, exact in all details, and still supported. Id go back to paying for a quality, supported, correct T2A server. (no, the UO Gamer one was not correct).

Can anyone tell me about Huxley?

Think MMOFPS with 3(?) different, unique sides. Made by that Korean MMO group (NCsoft?). It looks really really cool, but I read the gameplay is just bland shooter type stuff.

Doesn't Alan Wake come out this year? I'm really curious about that one.

Best game scheduled for release this year is definately DEFCON.

Made by the guys who did Uplink and Darwinia, it'll be out round September and is gonna be awesome. It focuses on gameplay and strategy as opposed to eye-candy and 'new tech' which is something too often forgotten these days.

Supreme Commander

This is my absolute must-have game, probably for the entire decade. If you haven't seen the E3 trailer for it, do so. Just...wow.

Of course, I'm the resident Total Annihilation fanguy / evangelist, so I might be a bit biased.

Forget Quake Wars, and NWN2...

Hellgate : London and Spore will be the most fun by far ;)

Theres a bet your life would be safe on!

Enemy Teritory: Quake Wars is going to make BF:2142 look like a huge POS.

Way to remain objective! Excellent!

Well, it's true :D

*sigh* I'll play along...

Tell me how after you played both games (for a good couple of hours to give each a fair chance) how they differ in gameplay and teamwork and overall "fun factor". I'm dying to know. Dying.
