Project: The Great Wall (GA-8N-SLi-QUAD)

So, what's he doing with that rig in 2 years? Want my address and shipping payment now? ;)

IMO I think you're going to be happy to have the 7800's when it comes time to upgrade to Vista to be able to take advantage of the graphical features. If anything I would have maybe suggested 7600's to reduce the heat & power draw, but if your boss can deal with the heat output then there's no worries. Furthermore a DC processor is probably a worthy upgrade for a system like this and I'm a little surprised you didn't go with one... All in all nice build, excellent job.

Poncho, was your suggestion regarding water cooling serious ? With all your critisism about stability and up time do you really think water cooling would be ideal ? I don't.

He did put a dual core processor in there, though Dual Core and Dual Processor are 2 entirely different things. For what he's doing DP would be better IMHO.

Well let's see... he's already complained about it being hot under his desk. That cannot be comfortable. Also with that many cards heat and power is going to be a major issue. Either you go with a fan solution, which I would think would end up being VERY loud if it's effective, or you go with some better type of cooling. A well built water cooling system could solve some problems with the system now, and possibly in the future.

I sense alot of jealousy in this thread...

I can't even imagine the heat that some off of that box..not to mention the heat from the LCDs...no need to hear the ceo's office in the winter :p.

I say he should just try and duct the air coming out of the case out a window or something. He hasn't said anything about overheating problems, just that it's too warm for the boss under there. If he could duct the exit holes somewhere else, he'll be fine.

Just wondering, for a video solution did you consider Matrox. I know in the past they made great multi monitor soltions for the corperate world.

Btw, glad to see that it works as intended.

Oh it is dual core. Well then I think that will suffice.
Still I dont think water cooling would be the optimal solution, but rather using 7600gts instead to decrease the heat output.
However the build is done and I dont think any of these suggestions will make a difference.

Yeah, it was pretty hot, but after I moved it to the outside of his desk, it runs MUCH cooler now out in the open. The noise also seems much less out in the open, rather than sitting on top of it. Again, no power issues to speak of, no random crashes, etc.

I'm not sure about Vista, but seeing as I have the disc from our MSDN/Technet subs, I should give it a try some weekend. I have a feeling its going to be slow, but I also don't plan to upgrade to Vista anytime soon.
