well its on sale here in canada for $800 (down from $1100).... ill be using mainly for surfing and lots of gaming... just a few questions for you guys

1. Does it upconvert non-native resolutions well? (for eg 1680x1050)
2. Is the input lag noticeable? If so are the newer revisions better? Dell will be sending me one made around March.

ill be replacing my 19" samsung 955df... currently i game at 1280x960 4xAA/8xAF in most games.... i plan on gaming at 1920x1200 2xAA/4xAF at the very most (ill be fine with no AA/AF at that res)

That 7 days of dell deal is really tempting.
Anyone purchased this from dell.ca recently? What's their shipping like? I get free shipping, anyone know how long that usually takes? It looks like it's on backorder though, the site says usually ships in 1 to two weeks. It's half the price of the Samsung 242MP I was going to get, and now I'm really torn...

I haven't had any problems with my 2405 as far as the resolution(s) go. From what I can see it handles anything you throw at it (dont go past 1920xect).

The input lag (if you're using the USB ports on the side or in back) is noticable yes. This is only noticable if you're using a mouse, though. Keyboards/any other device will probably not give you any trouble. It's just one mine when I try using a mouse it'll lag about 20 ms behind, aka if I move it really fast it'll take that long to keep up.

All in all it's a beautiful monitor. My revision is A01 and there's no backlight bleed/dead pixels. I would totally recommend getting one, or two

my mouse is plugged in my pc's ps/2 port so i wont be using the usb connections on the monitor.... so i should be ok then?... also another question... does the monitor package come with a dvi cable?

Yes it comes with DVI and VGA cable.

Resolutions support, for the lower ones you can choose Fill (full stretch), Aspect (stretch until either vertical or horizontal length is maxed out, while maintaining ratio), and 1:1 (no stretching). Native of course will look the best, but Aspect should be pretty good too.

You should play with custom resolutions. I've been playing around, adding resolutions to find the sharpest "low" settings. So far I found 1024 x 640 (the "new" 10x7), and 1280 x 720 to be the sharpest. I won't suggest the more blurry ones so you don't waste your time, but these are the ones I've been using for a while.

Sometimes though I don't mind stretching. Play Starcraft? Playing it in aspect ratio is not as sharp as I'd like (I don't know what's wrong), but stretching it to the full widescreen isn't that bad. And for some reason it's sharper, so that's what me and my friend use.

1280x720 isnt 16:10 though... its 16:9 so if you stretch it fully then it will look distorted

1680x1050 is a little blurry, but it works, I love my 2405. the input lag that people are saying, I dont notice unless I really look hard for it.

I play UT 2004 at 1920x1200 at full graphics detail on my 6600GT pcie,

I think you'll like it.

but Im still not sure whats the differance from the old ones and the new ones (I bought mine aorund august last year) and maybe I just got lucky and got a perfect one :).

The port doesn't matter. You'll lag and a lot more than 20 ms. It's very noticable in fast paced games (I returned a 2405FPW).

What can I say I sold mine. I would have a hard time saying it "suxored" or anything like that though. It was pretty. I started to like that nice and sharp lcd look, but the motion left something to be disired for me. It seems they all do to some extent, but the tougher reviewers do bag on it for "afterglow" or the like. Long story short, you don't have to be an anal retentive bastard to notice it. They picked the panel for it's nice blacks etc. It is simply not a fast display with some transistion riding up into the 20ms category. Don't jump out the window yet, fast displays are lucky to stay under 15ms consistently. Don't think of all the "2ms" monitors that are out there when i say the Dell can get as bad as 20.

It upscales pretty well. Modern lcds are getting pretty decent at it, in the context of images, if you ask me. Text well, it's hard not to notice when a certain part of a letter is fatter than it should be because of distortion. But for games, not bad.

I bought this monitor last November I think from the 7 days of deals for $969 and it was a great purchase.

Good picture and I don't have the mouse input lag issue.

I play WOW on it and it looks great; played FEAR and some other FPSs as well and it handled it pretty well. There is ghosting if you look for it but I don't notice it unless I am looking for it.

Well the the other form, 1280x768 isn't as sharp. Well, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I mean, you would think that all 16x10 resolutions would be sharp, but believe me they aren't.

(e.g. 960 x 600 looks like complete garbage...but it is also a very low resolution)

Hah the motion/ghosting is not really an issue with me. It's getting used to the sheer size of the thing, and getting that "newbs nausea" all over again. It's like I'm 10 again, trying to get used to FPS motion, it's that much of a difference.

they would waive the restocking fee but if the product is not defective then you will have to pay shipping for return.

the estimated shipping for 2007wfp is $75CND. that is shipping from Ottawa to Dell Canada. trust me you want to do all you could to avoid the shipping charge.

Unless you have 2 7900GTXs or 2 X1900XTXs...you probably ain't gonna be doing 1920x1200 2xAA/4xAF.....dream on

not to stray off the issue at hand but is SLI really all that much a performance boost? Ive read that dual cards doesn't really produce a significant increase in performance to justify the overall cost at this time.

no SLI isnt that great.... i think i can do 1920x1200 with AA/AF in most titles actually... exceptions would be FEAR and any game that uses FP16 HDR

At that resolution I'd say so..or you can wait for a G80/R600 :D
