I've maxed out my major skills and am at level 43. Cant level any more since you can only level up with your major skills.

Is anyone at a higher level?

Since there are 8 major skills and a cap of 100 per skill, with levelling occuring once you've raised 10 major skill points.

So what level are you guys?

Depending on how you pick your major attributes, birthsign, etc the level cap for a certain player might be a bit higher or lower. However, for some classes (like the default warrior class) there is also a realistic level cap. I don't think many people are going to bother leveling blunt and hand to hand when the game mostly revolves around blade type weapons. So, you could level those just for the sake of leveling but your actual combat effectiveness will barely increase.

I think the max level is 60 but you really gotta pick some messed up skill combinations to pull that off. You'd want to pick major skills that your class isn't specialized in, and no bonuses towards any of those areas. So specialize in combat and make your majors all magic based etc.

Due to laziness and not wanting to wear out perfectly good weapons, I have used hand to hand extensively in dungeous and on bandits. I'm only level 10 now. Blade, hand-to-hand & heavy armor are my leading attributes in doing battle. My blunt skill is close behind. I can kill a timer wolf in two solid blows from my fists. I'm a warrior/knight. So my stregth & agility is definately contributing to my hand-to-hand effectiveness.

The one thing I am lacking is better destruction and alteration skill. I try not to rely on magika for much except restoration.

Once i maxed out my blade and light armour skills, i went to heavy armour and blunt weapons. I'm level 96 blunt and maxed my heavy armour quite quickly. My hand to hand is at 53 and i'll be working on that once blunt is maxed out.

I just have this urge to max every skill i have. Mind you Merchantile is insanely hard to upgrade. I seem to increase a level with every 50,000 - 100,000 gold i sell. Taking forever. only level 36 :(

There's something I've been planning on trying when I eventually hit this point: get locked up a few times to decrease your major skills, and hopefully be able to level up by increasing them again.

It's possible that losing skill points detracts from your level progress, but it's worth a try. I'd be interested to hear what happens.

I think mercantile skill is increased not for value of the items your buy or sell with haggling, but the qty items you sell.

If you really want to plan everything our properly, you could theoretically choose your sign, class, level-ups, etc. to make your cap higher. I think the absolute max you can pull is around 60, though. By that level you've capped everything. I think the only way to avoid that would be to do things that permanently lower certain statistics like going to jail.
The thing is - it really doesn't matter. The world levels up with you to a certain point. The games not really any easier when you're at level 40 than level 20. Levels 14-20 are the tough ones. After that, it's cake. By the time you're level 25, you likely have either created or found enchanted weapons or spells that'll make short work of anything. Actually, once you can use invisibility the game is easy.
Leveling up beyond 40 really changes nothing. 40 is right at the point where you've completed all of the main quests...or you should be pretty close.

Anyone with mercantile as a main stat, I'm with you and I pity you. It's painfully tough to raise, and pointless. Alchemy isn't much better. I stashed a lot of crazy potions for a boss fight that never happened. 99% of those "fortify this" and "resist that" potions are pointless. Resting and cure spells will get rid of any bad effects...so why bother?

I made thousands of potions while upping my alchemy stats. Not to mention buying ingredients and selling loot i found all over. Has to be one of the most unbalanced skills ever.

I remember Armorer being pretty bad in Morrowind... Always did all my own repairs, and by Level 72 my Armorer was at 80...

Level 53 it would seem

Each major skill starts at 25 (if you avoid specializing in any of them), meaning you can earn 75*7= 525 skill points in major skills. So you can gain 52 levels, and if you start at level 1...

from what I understand, it is capped at 50 even if you get 100 in every skill.

This can be found on the forums at elderscrolls.com, not sure where atm, but I did read this on their site.
