What would you get? I would like to keep it at say $350 and under

My system is in sig

3200+ barton
1 gb kingston ram pc3200
2 160gb HDs
evga 6800nu
some Asus mobo because my nice one fried

I would go for a 64 bit board and chip. However, that might just at the limit or slightly above it. Why not a nice new video card?

i 2nd the opteron 144.. the biggest problem i see is that your video card is agp.. there is that board that is pci-e and agp for s939 though...

How bout an

Opty 144 $170ish
Gigabyte NF4 SLI mobo $80 ish
evga 7600gt $190ish
20-->24 pin converter $4

I think you should list what it is about your computer that you don't like. Then you can figure out a plan of attack.

Are your games too slow? is your work too slow? Does your monitor suck?
For $350 you can get a sweet widescreen LCD and maybe that will make you happy.

Do you like your mouse/keyboard?
stuff like that.
Upgrade b/c you have a reason to.
not b/c you need to blow money.

perfect advice. What exactly is it that you want your computer to do better?

I have a nice keyboard and mouse, I got a cheap 19" monitor, but it's fine...supports up to 1600*1200 wtih refresh rates to like 85 ($89 inisignia at BB)

umm speakers are great....sound card is fine....HDs fine

I just need a faster Proc...with new mobo...and I would think it would be smart to go PCI-e now and it's nice to have more FPS

I don't liek running at 1024*768 and new games are starting to have some FPS drops...liek oblivion, and BF2 never ran great, etc

you were pretty close before.. i woudln't get the gigabyte motherboard because they tend not to overclock as well.. dfi does oc well.. but there are way more settings tto tweak and make sure are right.. asus or abit might be a happy medium. . there is jsut a ton to choose from..

it might be a long shot, but maybe someone would trade you their 7600 gt pci-e for your 6800nu ago.. you might need to add some $ to make that work..

you are on the right track, i think...

ok if I got the operton from monarch, what heatsink would y'all get? I would preferably like quiet and cool. If it has to be big...liek one of those freezers, I don't care...just give me quiet

also the DFI costs more...I need to keep the mobo at like 90

So we're looking at $450 for a motherboard, processor and memory? I'm thinking:

Opteron 144 - $130
7600GT - $190
ASUS A8N-SLI - $110

Provided you current PSU does it. I'm assuming it is good since you are running a high-end Socket A and 6800 card.

And I need a heat sink...the operton 144 is OEM for $130...and that lacks a heatsink correct?
