I was on amazon last night and purchased Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri for $5. I decided I wanted to get the expansioni Sid Meier's alien crossfire. Aperantly its out of print and only two websites have it amazon for $104 and Ebay for up to $120. I bought this expansion 6 1/2 years ago for $20 so It jumped quite a bit in price.

Now I'm not a fan of game pirating but is there any way (if legal) to have anyone who reads this and is able to get a hold of the game to send me a copy of it. I will pay shipping and est, my email is

[email protected]

Id try the FS/Trade forums. Someone might sell you it there for cheap.

unless they see this thread and see how much they can get for it

I am a big Sid fan and I wish they took the Alpha Centauri franchise further. Speaking from a fan's perspective, you will gain very little in terms of gameplay when using the Alien Crossfire expansion. The base game (patched of course) is fine without it.

Good luck finding the expansion (I gave my Alpha and Alien disks to my friend two years ago).

Thats like guitaroo man(rare PS2 game), when it was new 2 or 3 years ago it was the regular 50 bucks now it sells for 85 or so.

I would think that a game that the license owner willingly chose to stop producing and selling is no longer covered by that license.

Unless they see this thread and see how much the OP will not pay for it.

as someone linked above without elaborating, look for the planetary pack if you just want to play the game.

Unfortunately, I went to do some nostalgia playing, and I couldn't get it to run under XP.

Has nothing to do with licensing.

It's copyright infringement, and it's illegal.

The copyright may be dead, go check the US Patent Office website.

This sounds like the dilemma I had with Rez. It took a bit of searching, but I found it for a reasonable price. I'm sure that you'll find it legally, too :D

Copyright is currently valid for 95 years.

No video game in existence is public domain because the copyright expired.

This happens alot with out of print games that are still relatively popular. I play Nascar online and the 2003 version happens to be the most popular but has been out of print for several years. It's not uncommon to see it for 150-200 dollars on ebay.

i have a copy of alpha centauri that has the alien crossfire on the same disk, let me see if i can find it.

edit: i do have it as the planetary pack as i said above, i havent located the book/foldout that came with it as of yet but id be willing to sell it to you for considerably less than $104 send me a pm if your interested...

I suppose this is off-topic after the split, but Castlevania: Rondo of Blood for the PC Engine was fetching around $250-300 last I checked (couple of years back.)

Give it some time and look for it later. Chances are prices will go back down. A good example of this is Freespace 2. About 1 - 1 1/2 years ago it was going for $80-120 on Ebay, now you can pick it up for less than $30. Quite a few other games have done the same thing. Secret of Mana for Super Nintendo (was up to $200 a copy, now back down to $40 or less.) Take your time, check auction sites off and on and you'll be able to pick up a copy for a reasonable price.
