Which 7800GT OC would you buy – from ME ?

I’m going to order a Nvidia 7800 GT factory overclocked TODAY!
However, I may want to sell it in a few months (when Nvidia’s new 71 super GPU come out).

I’m wondering which brand some of you might be most interested in buying from me, provided the price is “right”?
I’d expect to offer the card for about $200, or $100 less than it’s current price at that time.

The cards that have caught my eye now (and why) are:

1) XFX – due to double lifetime warrantee (but some question tech support response)

2) EVGA – due to the copper heatsink and Lifetime warrantee

3) BFG – due to Lifetime warrantee and excellent 24/7 tech support

So which would you be most interested in?

Or, something else??

Thanks!
PS: replies are NOT binding ;)

My vote, in order

1)eVGA Usually great deals, high OC, and amazing service
2)BFG

3)XFX

gotta go with evga...instead of selling the card just use evga's step up and just pay the difference in price....although it has to be within 90 days of purchase.

I love eVGA. I have had a few of their cards, and they have been aweosme. I know they have some rather nice OC's on their 7800GT's too.

I don't think i'd pay extra for the copper heatsink, i think alot of people would just assume add a VF-700 or something.

XFX is also a great brand. They come with a nice OC and can be had on the cheap. I just picked up two of em. But i haven't used em yet. I still need to buy a few more parts.

BFG is my last pick here. My buddy bought two of their cards and two of them had to be RMA'd. He said their support was lacking at best.

I hadn't thought of that - although I doubt the new cards will be out in time.

And it sure seems it's a EVGA crowd here - more so than I would have expected. ;)

But, heck. thats why I'm here asking!

actually the general concensus seems to be BFG, while all three of those make good cards id go with eVGA :)

rumor has it that the 7900s?? will be out in March....plan it correctly and u can step right up and into it.

+1 for EVGA

No issues with mine, what so ever. Have the CO model which I OC'ed to 485/1150 over the weekend, temps are pretty much the same.

Trouble is "March" often means March 31st with a total of 50 cards all goint to review sites.
And I'm sitting here with a complete brand new rig to build - EXCEPT for a PCIExpress video card!
(DFI Expert, Opteron 165, Sythe Ninja with dual 120 fans, etc., etc.)

How much can you expect from a frail overclocker - even a cheap one? :p

what i was trying to say is....buy the evga 7800 now...that will entitle you to step up within 90 days....90 days from now would be about april 30....if there is a shortage then evga might again do what they did with the 7800 512's and extend the step up until u are offered one...and if not, then worst case scenario is you sell it for $200 and buy the newest and greatest thing....sounds like a win-win situation IMO

That's what I'm hoping for!

Definately looking forward to taking advantage of the step-up program myself. Putting aside loose cash for the next couple months and will see what's available at that time. At the very least I'll be going up to a GTX.

i forgot about the step up program. That is a big plus for eVga.
kinda wish i had got them rather than XFX. But then again i saved $35 on each card by taking advantage of a one day sale.

Maybe i'll just sell em when something better comes along...although i doubt i'll need anything untill real good DX10 games are out there.

eVGA has the best warranty in the business...

XFX has the Double Lifetime which is sweet.
eVGA is also a really nice one. Do they still support aftermarket heatsinks?

LOL, I'm in the EXACT same position.

I'm probably going to get an EVGA 516 7800GT from Monarch on monday: $288.99 + $5 shipping and - $20 rebate = $273.99. Cheapest I can find it from a reliable seller.

Any reason you don't like XFX?

Nothing personal for me, but in reading posts on DFI-Street and others seems like FAR more about XFX than others, and almost universal complaints about lousey Tech Support blaiming everything except their own product, or just plain not responding at all.

Evga someware in the middle.

Mostly praise for BFG.

Of course, there are prob. thousands of posts all over I haven't read.

wonkman - I'll check that out myself.
Dang Monarch - I WISH they would allow packages to be left at door.
I've paid MORE just to avoid that policy.

Don't bother. They knocked the price UP $22 this weekend to $310.69. There's still a $20 rebate but now the price is the same as everywhere else. I think the new bottom seller is zipoomfly @$289.99 free ship 2 day FedEx. Or $269.99 after rebate for the 515 which has a less powerful fan and no copper core in the HS.

i got my eVGA on Jan 13. I talked to an eVGA rep and even if the 7900 is sold out until April 13th, they can put me on a queue so even if it expires i'm still eligible to upgrade.

Dude. That's awesome news. I'm going to contact them and see if I can get on that train. What number did you call to hook that up? Did he mention the cost of the step-up?

Yea, cause eVGA has anything to do with how well the core can scale higher

As for now there is no current news. When the 7900 comes out, then you apply for the step up. There's no special "hook up" or so. It's standard procedure.

Well, Thanks to all who have helped me out. :D
When I started this thread my most recent knowledge about Video Card technology was at the ATI 9800 AIW level.
Although I did read as many reviews and posts as I could before posting, it’s been the responses of the Forum Community here and else ware that have given me the “final knowledge polish” to make a purchase with confidence. (And if this expensive monster doesn’t work, Boy are you guys going to get flamed!)

Anyway my purchase is (drumroll please) – the EVGA 7800 GT CO with a factory GPU speed of 470 and memory of 1100.
I purchased it from Clubit.com (which has a resellerratting.com of 9.7x) for $309 plus about $24 Calif. Sales tax <sigh>, and free shipping.

256-P2-N517-AX $309
http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A9602790

What is kinda weird is they have it priced CHEAPER than the SLOWER evga card (GPU 445MHz; Mem. Clock 1070 at $326!
http://www.clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A9602785

One other thing anyone thinking of buying today or tomorrow might want to know – with of this card there is an additional $30 mail-in rebate IF you also buy any AMD Athlon 64, X2, or FX!
But it’s only good for purchases thru Jan 31st, and only from these merchants: Aspect Computer, MicroStandard, Mighty Micro, ClubIT.com, Tiger Direct, ZipZoomFly, or CBW

AND it’s really HARD to find (like there trying to hide it!) but here’s a link to it:
http://images.pricegrabber.com/rebates/43156-3770.pdf ;)

As always, CAREFULLY read everything for yourself!

Thanks again for all your help!

nice!

i have the N517 as well....its a great card, you'll be happy with it.

edit: well, i had that card....just got the call from evga for my step up to the 512mb!! i had hoped it would have been delayed so that I could get a 7900 but oh well. I can always sell the 512 when the DX10 cards come out.

I wound up paying $337.95 for the step up....plus I got to pay the retail price for the card (699.99) instead of the jacked up prices we are seeing at newegg, zzf, monarch, etc.

Good call, you won't be dissapointed. It must suck living in Cali since a lot of the good parts sellers are located out there, get stuck with sales tax everytime.

I asked a rep from eVGA and this is what he emailed me:

We really don't know what exactly will happen in the future, but if the
card has limited availability like the 512mb 7800GTX, then we will open
a queue and you will be able to wait in this queue longer than your
90-day period, so long as the original request is submitted within the
first 90 days of your purchase date. If you have any other questions or
comments, you may submit an email to our customer service / technical
support department by visiting
http://evga.com/support/getsupport/default.asp or you may call us at

I bought my card on January 13th so that means i have until April 13 to step up to G71 which is a lot of time since speculations of the card coming out is around late Feb- early March. :D

jhego - I see in your sig you have your 7800 @ 490 / 1400 on air. I just cranked mine up to 490 / 1200 over the weekend with no problems. vcore on the board get's up to around 50 under heavy 3D load though. What temps are you pushing, out of curiosity?
