I've been playing through Kameo on the 360 and it's a lot of fun. One thing i like about it is the boss battles. I haven't had a console since the Genesis, so i'm sure i've missed out, but it seems like on the PC most of the first person shooters that i generally play don't have any good boss battles. Kameos bosses remind me of the old Sonic games where you had to actually figure out the pattern of the boss and beat him in just the right way. I haven't beaten it yet, but so far my favorite boss in Kameo has been the ice queen bug thing that you have to take out its eyes.
Some games have bosses, but they're no fun. For example, I thought Doom 3 had some pretty bad bosses. The spider girl didn't take any thought at all, you just keep shooting at her like a normal enemy, except she has more health. The Guardian in hell was frustrating and annoying.
This will seem to contradict what i just said, but the boss battle in Quake 4 where you fight your old squad leader was ridiculously fun for some reason i can't really explain. Maybe it was having the guided rocket launcher, but it was so fast and furious that it got my heart pounding like a game hasn't done in a long time.
So what are your favorite boss battles, past and present? Anybody think bosses just aren't what they used to be?
