I bought the evga 7800GT CO SE 516 at Monarch and when i received it, the stock clock is 470. Does it mean that i have the CO version? But isn't CO a 517? On the box and the back of the card it says 516.
Did i receive a CO on a CO SE box?

they just changed the BIOS on them

i think the CO SE and CO are a waste though, my N518(N515) was stock 445/1070 but did 530/1260 out of the box on stock cooling

There are multiple "CO' model numbers and each have different clock speeds I believe. Many of the CO model cards had BIOS problems and the new BIOS defaults to 470/1100 which is N-517 stock speed.

Nice to know. I didn't know that BIOS could change stock speeds.

thats the only difference between the models other than the aluminum/copper cooler, is the BIOS, the cards clocked at 470 aren't magical in some way to run 470, its just the BIOS that tells it that

then tell me this, why am i getting artifacts on stock 470 clock. But when i downclocked the card to 460, the artifacts are gone? Is there a way to fix this?

Habitual geek, what is your BIOS version?

I had the same problem with one of my COs. I was too lazy to send it back to Newegg so I just overvolted it. Problem solved.

go to the evga forums, they tell you how to flash your cards bios to fix that

The problem with the original bios for the COs is that it still had the delta and some of the chips could not handle it while some could. As stated before there is a whole thread about it on the eVGA forums.

my 516 from zipzoom was a 516 "COpper" but did 470 stock. when i registered it sn at evga they listed it as a standard co. shitty clocker, did 482 stock and 491 with the arctic cooler. mem was 1.16 with either cooler. (idle 32c max load 41c)

links please?

well i ended up RMA'ing it back to Monarch. I talked to eVGA and it is due to bad chips.
