I'm planning on purchasing an EVGA 7800GT card and want to know if it would work with a 20 pin mobo (Soltek KT890Pro). I think I read on here somewhere that the card might short.

20 pin as opposed to what?

A 16 pin motherboard?

Look, if it supports PCI-Express, and you have the right power supply, it should work just fine. I really don't think you should skimp on the supportting parts if you want to use new technology, if you have a 20 pin connector on your board, get a power supply that supports 20 pins.

20 pin as opposed to 24 pin I would imagine. No as long as you plug in the right power connectors and it supports PCIe then your straight.

Sorry I should have clarified. I meant 20 pin as opposed to 24 pin. I remember reading a post on this forum where a guy had a 24pin psu and a 20pin mobo. He said that his 7800gt shorted because it needed the 24pin connection. His solution was to use a 24pin-20pin converter and hasn't had that problem since.

As long as you have around 400w power supply, you shouldn't have a problem

Been running my Motherboard and a 7800GT with a 20pin 480w for a month now with no problems. I originally bought a 20 to 24 pin adaptor and my system wouldn't boot with it, so i wasted 8 bucks :(

Thanks for the info. I have a 430w PSU, but will probably upgrade to a better one just to be safe.
