G.Skill 2X1gig

reliability should be fine, considering g.skill... i haven't seen anything useful about them anywhere... hell, i don't even know what chips they use :p
i'll try to have some answers for you soon ;)

originally was not plannin on OCn but im pretty sure ive been talked into it, especially since im not going dual core, and im debating between the venice 3500 and 3200.

those g.skill 2.1gb use uccc if i'm not mistaken.
(the ones eclispe mentioned)

b/c i love shiny heatsinks :D
i dont know, just something about buying value that scares me

I don't see what is so scary about it. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences with value ram. My corsair maxed ouat at 240mhz and the new gskill is looking to hit around 250-260.

eh, i guess its just that i dont have as much experience with this as others. i see ram with flashy heatsinks and nice packaing and i automatically think its good ( bad habit ). the only hardware i have problems pickin out is ram.

then buy a set of heatspreaders... or better yet, do your ram a real favor and buy some ramsinks and put a fan over em :D

The black heatspreaders on the g.skills look pretty beautiful too though o_o... If my order of OCZ gets refunded somehow, I'll probably jump on those. :D

Man, OCZ needs to make some black mirrored heatspreaders. I'll never see these once they're installed but hey, at least I know the inside of my case is pretty. :D

Why would you want black? Isn't black the #1 insulator of heat? If anything you'd want white to repel as much heat as possible. Unless you want your RAM to look like James Bond at a dinner party.

from what I understand black captures more light than other colors which makes it hotter than other colors. I dont think the color has insulating capabilities, just the ability to capture light and make heat from it. I could be wrong, but im curious.

Exactly.

How much light is there inside a PC case? I mean, yeah there's those dudes that have like 60 UV lights and stuff in their cases, but they're a bunch of poofters and don't count. Seriously though, I doubt that black spreaders is gonna cause problems... just cause they're black.

Do Ballistix Tracer have problems with heat? Is the difference between the regular orangey-gold Ballistix heat spreader measurably different from the black spreaders of the Tracer? I doubt it.

i think the factory applied heatspreaders, as ppl have said, are purely cosmetic. tests have been done, and they pretty much do jack squat for temp

I thought that only applied to light . As long as it doesn't burn up the chips, I'm sold :D.

EDIT: I guess this was somewhat explained in the above posts.

just as much as the normal ballistix do, because of the micron chips it uses ;)

Time to beat Eclipse to the suggestion:

Just strap a fan over it and you should be good.

Update:

I bought the 2gig DDR 500 from G.Skill. This stuff seems awesome so far. Running at 260mhz 3-4-4-8 (1T) at 2.6 volts.
