How can I fix a corrupted hal.dll for Windows XP Pro?

The only other time I've ever gotten it was when I was dual booting redhat and xp pro on the same computer (seperate hard drives), and the only way I fixed it was to reinstall windows.

This time I have two 74gig raptors running in a RAID0 with windows and apps installed on it and two 200 GB HDs with just data on it. All are serial drives.

Most of my stuff is on the dual 200GB hard drives, but a few things I access regularly (mostly not important) are on the raptors, as well as all my installed files and I really don't have time to go through and reinstall everything I need on it (of course, if I have too, I will).

Thanks

This is yet another reason why I ditched my Raptor RAID0 array. Anyway, if you boot from the XP CD, you should be able to replace the file from the recovery console, or some of the repair options from the CD.

The first time I got it was from running a 160GB IDE with XP and a 20GB with Redhat on it.

Thanks, I'll try it.

I loaded a 20GB hard drive into my system, put the SATA drivers on it, and let it run chkdsk on the raided serial drives. That fixed it right up.

All my important stuff is on the two 200 GB HDs. If I lose windows, then I just lose the time it takes to install my applications again, maybe some save files on games, stuff like that.

I would like to start backing up all my files (hard drive imaging, etc), but I don't know where to start, nor do I have the capacity to back up the 350 gigs of files on the two 200 GB hard drives.

Any suggestions?

I personaly use a usb hard drive of course i dont have 350 Gb of stuff but you can still get a big drive and just toss it in a enclosure and use some software to set a incrimental backup. I user Genie Backup and I love it.

With that much data you easiest option is hard drive as it would be too much of a pain to use DVD's at least for home use. Also I dont back up anything I can replace. Like program iso's and such. Those can always be re-obtained in my mind anyways.
