It seems as I have decided to go with x1800xl but while I was chilling at bestbuy i got a chance to play on x360 that was set up properly and It was fun, graphics were very nice. At home I also Have 32" HDTV so I would think it wuld run good on it. In your opinion what would b emy best choice to get on a $500 budget max, an upgrade to my c to a x1800xl or 7800gt/gtx or simply get an X360. Tell you the truth I care alot about IQ and performance, help me out.

If you get a 360 you should feel guilty for spending the money on all your other computer components. All you need is a $320 video card and you'll be playing the greatest games and be doing everything else a computer can do better than a 360

QFT. I'd wait a few months or so and see if MS issues some kind of recall or more information emerges for all these failing X360's.

Depending on what kind of games you play, I recommend you go with the 7800GT (unless you want to wait a few months and see what kind of optimizations are done by game developers to make the X1800 a bit more appealing performance-wise).

Newegg has the eVGA 7800GT N516 (460MHz core) for $319 with free shipping right now.

xbox360 Duds are a non issue. First off its unlikey you will get a dud and even if you do, MS should repair or replace it within a week and MS pays the shipping costs.

Source:
"O'Donnell urged anyone with Xbox problems to call 1-800-4myXbox or go to http://www.xbox.com. If the problems can't be resolved immediately, Microsoft said it will pay to ship the console overnight to a repair center, overnight it back once it's fixed, or ship a replacement."

PS. If you like your mouse and FPS games stick with the x1800xl, its a great card. You can always get the xbox360 later when they are easier to find and have a wider game selection. :)

Well it looks like as if i might have a buyer on my mobo and my video card, so add $250 to my budget = $~750. I can get a x1800xt or a 7800gtx 256mb + mobo (my choice would probablt be x1800xt on it), or get a 7800gt or x1800xl + motherboard. or get the x360 + a bunch of games.
Well I agree that x360 has it's problems, but I really want to put my HDTV to a test. Should jsut go ahead and order myself a x1800xt + mobo and try to connect it to my tv?

Looking at your current video card I'd get the Xbox 360. Costs the same and you dont have the added hassle of it being redundant after a year or two. Also you can get a 360 now? I'm so waiting to get one but they are sure taking their sweet time restocking them :(.

I am still trying to decide, x360 might be a good choice. To you r question, they have 3 in stock in my ocal BB for $400.

Between the 3? man, I think the 7800GT is better, The X1800XL might be a slightly better card, but my NVIDIA !!!!!! self pops out espically when it comes to drivers in other OS's,
I hate consoles so I'm not going to go towards the 360 direction.

I hated Consoles too, i like playing FPS with mouse and keyboard, however after playing COD2 demo on x360 I actually likes it, besides the controller part. If I get one I will be probably be playing mostly sport games, and maybe sme FPS in future. Graphically t looked like it would look on my pc with DX9 mod 4xaa 1280x1024 all maxed out but with much higher FPS. So what I am thinking is that x360 might run cod2 and upcoming titles better then my pc will if i get x1800xl and mobo. I would be out of at least $450 buying a combo when I can spend $400 on x360 and get couple of games.

Yea, I agree. You are in a pretty good position for now on the PC side.

So you think I should just get X360 and then maybe wait till after r580 is out to upgrade? I hear socket M is coming out next year too.

If you feel inclined, x360.

Upgrading a computer video card just one generation old seems like a waste to me.

Maybe you guys are right, I should get x360. Now i just have to hope that price will drop to MSRP soon, $300.

socket M2 is coming out next year. I would wait for that, looking at your current setup (x800xl).

Get an xbox 360, especially since it's one of the nice $400 bundles.

and an x1800xl isn't worth it for anyone. They are much too expensive for the performance. price of a 7800GTX and performance of a 7800GT, yuck!

nVidia should be coming out with the "G80" next gen video cards next year as well as ATI's r580.

Im a hard gamer. I would say, if you can currently play games even the games coming out on pc on your current system right now. then get a 360. otherwise if your pc is lacking, get a 7800gtx or something higher. Im waiting til next year to get a 360 (gonna wait for tax return) and ill most likely get a ps3 as well.

Uhm no.

7800GTX = $459

x1800xl = $349 -10 MIR = $339

$120 difference.
A lot of people, myself included, think it's worth an extra 40 bucks over a 7800gt for superior image quality and features. Plus when overclocked, the x1800xl is faster. :D

I am thinking of going to the "dark side" right now, seems like 7800gtx can be bought for $456 which to me seems like an awesome deal, plus a mobo =~$550. It seems to me that it might be worth it looking at that it is almoust equal to x1800xt (outperforms it in some cases) cost $100+ less. What do you think? It is just that x360 does not look apealing to me to play First person shooters, however NBA live 06 on it will be a killer looks like,

hmmm hard decision a X360 or 7800GT, i would probably get da 7800GT, because to me gaming on a pc seems to be better then on console and online gaming are much easier wif a computer.

I have no idea what the last guy just said but I'll throw my opinion in here....

You need to decide for yourself...... You need to decide what you like to do and play. If you want something you can sit down and play and has KILLER graphics on your HDTV and works great for FPS/sports/racing games then the X360 is the way to go. If you like PC games and PC control better and play that more, then get that. It really shouldn't need to be something people suggest but if that is what you want then I would say get both and get whatever you really want first on this budget and the other later :D . I just got my X360 at launch, with Condemned and PGR3 and I will say that those are experiences on my 65" HD Mitsu that I CAN NOT get from a PC at the moment even though I also have an Opty 146 at 2.9ghz with an X1800XL.

can the Xbox360 do web browsing and email? If it can or will in the future then I think it may just replace my main PC...

x360. Can't play Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Dead or Alive 4, Project Gotham Racing 3, or Gears of War on any PC video card. PC also has nothing remotely as cool as Xbox Live.

Not to mention both the X1800XL and 7800GT will be completely outdated in 6 months when unified shader cards hit the market.

Well. I like pcs alot, I pay online alot more then I play the singleplayer. However I have no internet now, I am using neighbors wireless but strenght of signal is low. I was looking at 7800gtx and 7800gt specs looks like I should get 7800gtx for more features. But then the above poster is right it will get outdated soon :(.

if everyone looked at things that way, no one would ever by a new video card. Just becasue a new card will be out, doesnt mean that 7800gt/x will be outdated. You don't need the latest and greatest to play games. Most of the features on the new cards won't even be used for another 6 months after that.

Personnaly, right now, I see no reason to upgrade from a x800xt. thats already a fairly powerful card. that should be able to handle anything out there irght now. maybe not with aa and af, but you could still get and enjoyable experience out of the newest games.
I was facing that same option, i was looking at a 7800gt or an xbox360. I chose to get a 360. it hasn't arrived yet, but I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

I can always get a new video card in a couple months.

I'd say xbox360. I am kind of in the same situation you are, but you have a better vid card. My system isn't even completely functional at this time, as it is having issues, but I am still going to go for the xbox360, I will be waiting a bit though since I plan on getting the HDTV first.

It is an x800xl but I like the way you put it. You made me think more about getting new card, my x800xl handles cod2 with 4xaa with no problem, plus I bought it about 9 months ago so maybe I shall keep ita bit longer. I will be looking into getting x460 bundle, hopefully by xmas they will have an x360+nba live 06 bundle instead of madden 06 :) .

Do what you want. You can go either way and play basically the same games. Personally I chose the PC because it does more and the games seem to be cheaper. Plus it fits my lifestyle more. I also had the same difficulty about deciding on console or pc. But with my lifestyle I came to the conclusion that the 360 would be a complete waste and didn't impress me at all as far as graphics were concerned.

what this guy is looking at though, is should he upgrade his computer (wich is fine for current games. not a powerhouse, but certainly capable), or get a x360 and have both?
looking at it that way, its easy to lean towards the xbox.

 You already have an x800xl! Upgrading just one gen vs a new game consol....I'd buy the 360.

After playing cod2 back to back on a dlp projector with xbox360 and computer, I'd go for the computer. JMO.

I'm in the same situation as you... here's what i would do... wait till Q106, get the ati r580 w/ socket m2. Your current pc setup is fine, if you like CoD2 that much, play it on the PC with a keyboard and mouse. Should be able to run at least 1024 with 4xAA. Why play it on the X360 with jaggies plust all these power bricks overheating problems, no thanks.

And about NBA Live 06, I would read about it at various game review sites and try to see it at a local store, if possible. But from what I read, the graphics are gorgeous but theres a lot of popping animation.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention F.E.A.R and BF2 are great multiplayer games that XBOX Live don't have right now. Gears of War won't be out for a while on the XBOX.

Yeah I'm half asleep so you see all these run ons but hope you get my point. Just my $0.02

I was thinking about something related to 7800gt's and the xbox being just released. Hoping that manufacturers (including nvidia) that put out these 7800gt's decides that there is a console/pc competition for people who might decide to go with the 360 instead of a high end graphics card. Hopefully this will soon make the 7800GT even cheaper than they are now, possibly making <$300 a standard for all 7800GT's. I'm aiming for post xmas prices to prove this.

Nba Live 06 sucked on x360, so did madden. Those were the 2 games I was looking forward to. I am back to deciding,
