I just bought an xbox 360 controller for windows at bestbuy, How do I get it to work with HL2 or CoD? I really like this controller, feels nice, even in my monkey fists.

Ewwww, A controller for fps'. I could understand you using the 360 controller for games like Fable. If you want to use a controller, why do you even own a pc. a 360 is probably cheaper than the pc you have.

I just want to know if there is a way to use it, dont get all hissy, I love mouse and keyboard.

It should work like any other game pad. I odnt know what Microsoft gave as terms of software for it, but you should be able to set the controls in game to the bottons on the controller.

I would like to use that controller or my Logitech Dual Action controller in the regular desktop. Joymouse and all the other game/pad mouse drivers seem inadequet at best and slow too.

I tried out my old Trackmania: Sunrise demo, and the controller works for it without any setup. I didnt like the game that much, but now I want to buy it, as I just had alot of fun playing.

EDIT: The King Kong demo works also.

www.windowsgaming.com <-- Get software for the controller

Install software, connect controller

Play game

Mine does not seem to center well :( anyone else notice this? (yes I have done the settings for it etc..)

PC FPS have crap for gamepad support. I had it working decently with FEAR, but Doom 3, Half-Life 2, and Battlefield 2 were complete failures for me.

Oh well, in a couple weeks, I'll have all the gamepad FPS goodness I can handle, with Perfect Dark 0, Quake 4, and Call of Duty 2. My carpal will thank me for less mousing.

Gamepads are great for driving sequences in games - much easier to use versus a keyboard/mouse.

Now we'll get to answer the age old question.

Who will be able to kick more ass? The gamepad or keyboard/mouse? :p

How are the ergonomics of the controller and honestly answer how big your hands are LOL :p

Does it feel cheap or solid?

I honestly feel it is the moost comfortable controller I've ever put my hands on...most retail kiosks have the controllercompletely attached to the whole thing, so you can't really feel it's weight or anything...but at best buy they had the controllers fully out, so I was able to feel how they will feel when you own the system....it's so damn comfortable....it's like it melts into the shape of your hand or something... come to me 360!!!! :p

i read that microsoft will release a "dongle" thingy to plug into your usb port that will allow wireless 360 controllers to work on the pc. I was planning on buying 2 extra wireless and 1 wired so i could use it on my pc but now i'll just get all wireless and buy a sensor for pc, maybe 2 for multiplayer roms. I was really glad to hear they are supporting the wireless.

I have very large hands and I also think this is the best controller. It is so light, feels VERY solid also.

Anyone have a list of compatable games that are out right now? I wonder why it doesnt light-up when I connect it also.

Think I'm going to exchange mine. When the controller is suppose to come back to center it will be slightly left/right of center depending on where it was last used.

I've not noticed this on any of the displays so probably something loose inside mine.

All of them have the centering issue. It's not a defect though, because the 360 has dead zones on them, and when games come out that are compatable for PC, they will have a increased dead zone also.

Depends on who is playing I guess. My little bro can kick my ass with a gamepad playing FPS games. It is all he ever uses. I don't know how he does it though, cause I suck with a gamepad.

I can stay in the top three in almost every FPS online game I play, but by my bro can still beat me with a gamepad playing something like FEAR. He uses one of those cheap $20 PS2 wannabe controllers too.

I certainly never would be any good with one, but they sell them for a reason - some people are better/prefer to play with them instead of a KB+mouse combo.

Where can I get more information about this? I've not had time to return it yet, and would like to know more.

Will drivers be able to fix the deadzone for current/older games?

Uh, wow. Seems like a downgrade, doesn't it? 10 buttons compared to 101 + a 7 button 360 degree movement mouse?

People seem to forget one thing. Not everyone cares about being the best in a game. I play all of my PC games with a mouse and keyboard, and guess what? I still suck. And frankly I dont care if I win, and I know there are others out there that feel the same. I definitely see the appeal to a gamepad in that you can lean back in your chair, kick up your feet, and play the game in a much more relaxed position than being hunched over the keyboard/mouse for 3 hours.

So what if hes at a disadvantage when using a gamepad. Maybe, just maybe, he doesnt care if hes #1 on the server. And maybe, just maybe, he finds the gamepad to be a more comfortable experience overall, regardless of the number next to his name at the end of the game.

I like using a keyboard/mouse combo for FPS, but I do just as well using a controller, and it's definitely more comfortable with the controller.
