I finaly replaced one of my CRT's with an NEC 1970gx 19" LCD, and i dont know how i survived so long on CRT's. The picture quality is worlds better, its brighter even at 50% brightness, and the pictures are clearer and crisper then my high-end 21" CRT.

I have now been bitten by the LCD bug, and am considering a 23" LCD. I have been looking at the Sony, Viewsonic, and Apple models. Anybody think this is too much, or is it worth spending the $1400+? Anybody have experience with these monitors and care to comment?

looking at ur rig and vid card, u owe it to urself to a 20in plus LCD. games at super high res is something else

I love the size of my 24" 2405FPW. I don't think I could go any larger for a computer monitor, it just seems over kill. I still have a second 17" screen hooked up for dual display, but only turn it on when i need it, which isn't very often. I've been a hardcore dual display advocate for about 8 years now, and ever since I got my 24", I hardly use my dual display anymore. The 17" acts like a 3rd screen in a sense because I can have 2 full windows open on the 24".

I'll never go back to CRT's since my Hyundai L90D+ and i'll never go back to square LCD's since my 2405.

The dell 23" widescreens are nice but the apple cinema 23" screens are also very nice.

Extra screen real-estate is definately worth it!!! It makes work so much more pleasant and gaming unreal that if you can affort it, get the largest LCD that you can. However, note that a lot of the larger screens are slower than their smaller bretherin, and you might want to wait a while for some faster lcds to show up (they are already trickling in)

For me the 24 inch has been the sweet spot. I have tried the Sharp 17 inch ,Dell 19, Viewsonic 19 924X ,Viewsonic 20.1 Dell 20.1, Dell 20.1 WS then the Dell 2004FPW.
It has ended my quest. :D

For someone who already has the 2001FP...big difference with the 2405? Besides the obvious screen real estate.

if you live in a cave and still club your food to death I suppose CRT's are still good.

I use my 17 sony crt more then my 24 dell, thats just me because I find that its better for fireworks and etc.

If I were you I stick with the 19 you have now then get a new monitor next year(which is only a few months away) so that there well be more to choose and maybe better ones. Alot can happen within just a few months...

I like to try and consolidate as many things to my PC as possible, whether is be for movies, gaming, etc. So I find having a 24" LCD is a nice balance for those things. I've seen pics of the guy on here using that 37" westinghouse as a PC monitor and I find that a bit extreme but it's something I wouldn't mind having at all. Since I already own the 2405 I've thought about trying to sell it and cut the losses for the Westinghouse but I'm not sure.

I went from a 19" LCD to a 24" and its a big difference in terms of size. My gf hates it when I spend money buying new hardware especially when it retails for $1200. But when I told her I bought it for $500, she thought it was ok until she saw the damn thing, now she's on it more than I am. Going bigger is the way to go as far as LCD's are concerned. I wish I can afford a 30" LCD but I really can't afford it, heck, I built my entire rig on account of deals and such.

heh, at least if she ever tells you that size doesn't matter you will know she's lying :p

I went from a 21" G520P CRT to a Dell 2001FP LCD and currently using a 24" Sony FW900 Widescreen CRT,As a gamer I wont be going back to LCD anytime soon :)

24" LCD is still bigger than a 24" CRT (22" or so viewable?).

22.5" viewable which is still rather large when its sitting right in front of you. Im also not stuck in a ridiculous 1920x1200 res when playing games, in fact I run a lot of games at 1280x800(monitor shot) (16:10 aspect) without Vsync (another nono on LCDs) and they look superb. Its also great having true black levels again which my 2001FP seriously lacked.

I like having my desk to actually use for workspace.

That being said, for me, the 2005fpw is the perfect size. I've seen the 2405 and while it's beautiful, just a little too much estate to look at.

(unless you're watching a movie, say, Jenna Loves Kobe or something along those lines....)

I am running one of the older 23 inch apple lcds. I have been running it a while now and I must say I like it. I have been thinking of selling it and getting 2 of the newer 21 inch or so widescreen lcds. Figure for things like games it will be a smaller screen but for normal apps 2 21 inch screens will kill my 1 23.

yes larger displays will be slower a ghosting will be a little bit more noticeable. it also reallys depends on what input you are using and what game you are playing. for me, on the 2405fpw, when using composite and component input there is some ghosting on some of my gamecube games. what is really odd though, is that i don't really notice any ghosting on my pc games.

on the westinghouse 37in, ghosting is noticeable on halo2 when using composite inputs. when watching an action flick dvd (Sahara) i don't see any motion blurring during fast paced action scenes. this is using component inputs.

so honestly i can't say what causes the ghosting. sometimes its there, sometimes its not. it is only more noticeable w/ certain inputs. i have yet to experience ghosting on pc games w/ the 2405fpw. i haven't tested enough pc games on my westinghouse. so i can't really say. but most definitely the westinghouse will be slower than the 2405fpw. then again its a 37in wscreen, while the dell is a 24in wscreen.

I love my 2405 at work its SO BIG & BEAUTIFUL!!

But I still use a 21" Trinitron at home b/c I like the ultra fast response of a CRT. I've only played WolfET on my 2405 at work and I didn't really notice any ghosting, but it just doesn't "feel" the same as a CRT.

If I had a nickle for every post I see you blathering on about this monitor I could pay for the return shipping on one...

Honestly mathesar we get it, you own a sony CRT. Seems like every thread I read you slip it in somewhere, hell I think I saw you mention it somewhere in the computer audio forum. How much of the time you spend using it is taken up by you posting on these forums about it???

I think I saw you tack it on to a thread in the audio forum. Like "I use the x-fi...with a 24 sony crt btw".

Maybe, I cant tell :(

Might be a time saver to just have a sticky on each forum titled that "mathesar likes his CRT", I'd hate to see him get carple tunnel praising the thing so much. I have only mathesar's best interest in mind.

Man, so many of your with that Dell LCD is unbelieveable. From what i read about it, however, both the Sony and Viewsonic are better on paper then the Dell, aside from the Dell having all of those TV type inputs (component, s-video, and whatever else). BTW, i read a review somewhere about that Dell the other day that said they were getting ghosting when using the components inputs, but not when using the DVi inputs.

My 8ms NEC shows no signs of ghosting whatsoever in any of my video games, and the "true black" that someone was talking about it much blacker on the LCD then on my CRT. But, i guess it all comes down to the quality of the display that you bought.

Right now I am leaning towards the Sony because i have a sony laptop and the display is freakin incredible.

I have the 26" Syntax (1280x768) in my living room. I game and use the internet from about 4 feet back and its good for tv/dvd watching from even farther. The picture quality is a lot better than I expected from a monitor that can be found for $600

yeah true, on paper it might be better than dell, but you have to look at what the dell has to offer.

Dell 2405fpw: 24in widescreen montior w/ Samsung Panel which can be found for less than $900. It has all sorts of inputs and has a higher resolution than most monitors found in its price range. Has incredible clarity and brightness. Blacks aren't the best but for the price, its a great monitor.

People praise it alot cause its a great buy not because its the BEST monitor ever made.
